Most of the providers we work with are small to medium NDIS organisations. Not because bigger providers don't need support, but because in a smaller team, compliance often sits alongside a dozen other responsibilities rather than being one person's full-time job.

That means building the capability of the people doing the work, not only reviewing documents. For us, that's what actually moves an organisation's governance forward and improves the experience of the people it supports.

The biggest mistake we see is providers starting to prepare only once their audit is close. Being ready on a regular basis, not just when the date is approaching, makes the whole process considerably less stressful.

1 October has come and gone. If your organisation applied for SIL registration before that date, you can keep delivering those supports while your application is assessed. If you didn't apply in time, the requirement to stop delivering SIL now applies.

For providers with an application in progress, the focus shifts. It's less about the date now and more about being genuinely ready for the audit that comes with it, documentation, staff understanding and practice all lining up.

A non-conformity means that an area has been identified as not yet meeting a specific standard.

It does not automatically mean that the audit has failed. A minor non-conformity allows the provider more time to make the required improvements, while the registration process may continue.

A major non-conformity generally needs to be addressed within three months, and the registration process cannot progress until the issue has been rectified and the audit successfully completed.

In both cases, a corrective plan needs to be in place and actioned in order to address the non-conformity.

Registration is usually where people think of us first, but it's really just the start.

We support providers through initial registration, ongoing gap assessments, mid-term audit preparation, renewal preparation at the three-year mark, and staff training along the way. It's meant to be an ongoing relationship, not a single transaction.
