Judges Spotlight No. 2 – Cr Jim Child OAM 📸

We’re delighted to shine the spotlight on our second 2027 Community Calendar Competition Judge — Cr Jim Child OAM.

A proud fifth-generation resident of the Yarra Ranges, Jim has a deep connection to the region and a long-standing passion for supporting local business, tourism and the communities that make our area so special.

Jim’s dedication to the region is reflected in his remarkable history of local government service. First elected as a Councillor with the former Upper Yarra Shire in 1982, Jim served two consecutive Council terms and had the honour of being Shire President in 1985.

He has also proudly served as Mayor of Yarra Ranges in 2012–2013, 2021–2022, 2022–2023 and 2024–2025, and currently serves as the O’Shannassy Ward Councillor at Yarra Ranges Council.

Jim is once again delighted to join us as a guest judge for our long-running Community Calendar Photo Competition, bringing his extensive knowledge of our region and genuine appreciation for the people, places and stories that make the Upper Yarra so special.

📸 2027 Community Calendar Competition – Meet Our Judges!

We’re thrilled to introduce our 2027 Community Calendar Competition judging panel!

This year, we’re honoured to have two highly respected and distinguished Upper Yarra locals lending their expertise to help select the winning images. They’ll be working alongside you – our community through ONLINE voting – and our Community Bank branch staff to select the 12 winning photographs that will feature in our 2027 Community Calendar.

We’re incredibly excited to have the photographic expertise of Kate Baker, alongside long-time Upper Yarra resident and passionate community supporter Cr Jim Child OAM, judging this year’s competition.

📸 Judging Spotlight: Kate Baker

Kate Baker is a Warburton-based artist and photographer whose artistic practice primarily focuses on black-and-white film photography. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Australia and Europe, and she has also created a number of wonderful community-based projects supported by both Community Bank and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.

Kate is a passionate advocate for the arts and our local community, and we’re delighted to have her expertise and creative eye back on the judging panel.

We’re sure Kate will have a tough job ahead with the high quality of entries received this year – but she’s super excited to be involved and help judge our wonderful competition once again!
