💙 NATIONAL CARERS WEEK 11–17 OCTOBER 2026

This National Carers Week, we’re being reminded to see the carer.

Carers are often the people quietly supporting someone behind the scenes - helping with appointments, meals, transport, medication, finances, daily routines or simply being there when they’re needed.

And often, they’re doing all of this while also juggling work, family, responsibilities and their own wellbeing.

The 2026 theme, “Care for a carer: Making carers visible,” is a timely reminder that the people who care for others need care and support too.

So this week, take a moment to notice the carers in your life.

☕ Make them a cuppa
📞 Check in
💙 Offer a helping hand
👂 Ask how they are doing

Sometimes caring for a carer starts with simply seeing them.
To carers across our communities - we see you, we appreciate you and we thank you for all that you do.

🌿 GARDEN SPOTLIGHT | 19 FLOWERS STREET, CAULFIELD SOUTH

Designed by Inge Jabara, this imaginative Caulfield South garden was created to unite two very different architectural styles - an original 1890 Victorian home and a contemporary new outbuilding on the neighbouring block.

The result is an Artist’s Garden, filled with colour, movement and personality. Flowing garden beds, sweeping pathways and changes in level encourage visitors to wander, explore and experience the garden from different perspectives.

At the front, soft mass plantings of Acacia cognata ‘Lime Magik’ are balanced by clipped box hedging and layered foliage, while the rear garden becomes more expressive with a Moroccan-inspired entertaining area, vibrant colour and a striking mural by local artist Anna Cole.

The garden also includes an updated pool area, sculptural elements, a firepit with floating concrete bench and a glass sculpture commissioned from Red Hill artists Gordon Glassblowers.

🌿 GARDEN SPOTLIGHT | 110 RIVERSDALE ROAD, HAWTHORN

Designed by Erin Green, this award-winning Hawthorn garden was created as a sophisticated urban oasis for family living and entertaining.

The design pairs a sleek, minimalist pool house with a striking wet-edge swimming pool, creating a contemporary outdoor space that complements rather than competes with the home’s Victorian heritage character.

Every element was carefully considered for scale, proportion and practicality, with high-quality materials, refined construction and soft landscaping working together to create a calm and beautifully resolved garden.

The project has received national recognition in its price category, while the swimming pool itself was awarded Best Pool Construction in 2021.

🌿 GARDEN SPOTLIGHT | 19 AIRD STREET, CAMBERWELL

Designed by Caroline Hyett, this beautiful Camberwell garden wraps around a historic Federation Queen Anne-style home, blending family memories, seasonal colour and practical living.

Bluestone steppers lead visitors through layered plantings beneath mature trees, with proteas, hydrangeas, salvias, bromeliads and other striking seasonal favourites creating depth and interest throughout the garden.

At the front entrance, fragrant roses and flowering perennials provide colour for both picking and painting, while a bluestone alfresco terrace celebrates the family’s love of growing and cooking with fresh produce. Espaliered apple and pear trees, herbs, strawberries and rhubarb complete the space.
