Access to a defibrillator can be the difference between life and death.
A defibrillator is a life-saving device that delivers an electric shock to restore a normal heart rhythm during cardiac arrest. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are designed for public use, with simple voice instructions that guide you through what to do. When used early, they can increase survival rates by up to 70%.
After completing a first aid course last year, and with a family history of heart health issues, I became more aware of just how important quick access to this equipment is. It also made me realise that our local sports oval didn’t have an easily accessible defibrillator.
This space is at the heart of our community. It’s home to local football leagues, the Tumbarumba Rodeo and Show, the Sports Academy, dance, basketball, and is used daily by families and individuals walking through the grounds. As both a mum and a local business owner, it felt important to be part of creating a safer environment for everyone who uses it.
With the generous support of Bendigo Bank Tumbarumba, we’ve now been able to install a defibrillator on the outside of the basketball stadium — accessible when it’s needed most.
