๐Ÿ“Š Market Update: Key Corporate Moves from ASX Heavyweights

Boss Energy (BOE) โš›๏ธ
Boss Energyโ€™s US uranium partner enCore Energy is expanding the Alta Mesa Uranium Project in Texas, where Boss holds a 30 per cent stake. enCore has acquired 5900 acres of land next to the project and will begin a 200-hole drilling program in mid-October with two rigs before adding two more. CSL (CSL) ๐Ÿ’‰
CSL is undergoing a major restructure, cutting 15 per cent of its global workforce in a move aimed at delivering $550 million in annual cost savings. The company will spin off its Seqirus vaccines business into a separate ASX-listed company, while also launching a $750 million share buyback. Despite these changes, CSL posted a 14 per cent lift in full-year net profit to US$3.3 billion ($5.1 billion).

๐Ÿ’ก These updates show how ASX leaders are taking different approaches to todayโ€™s market conditions, with Boss expanding, BHP tightening capital spend, and CSL restructuring for efficiency.

๐Ÿš€ "AI is an enabler, not an enemy." โ€“ Treasurer Jim Chalmers

AI is poised to be one of the largest drivers of economic growth in Australia with the Productivity Commission estimating it could add up to $200 billion over the next decade.

As the government weighs regulation, the Treasurer is calling for a balanced, pro-growth approach, warning that over-regulation could stifle innovation and opportunity.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Investors are already positioning for this shift. HALOโ€™s AI Thematic Model is up 81% over the past 12 months, reflecting strong momentum in the sector.

๐Ÿ“‰ Trump Shakes Markets: Jobs Crash, Stagflation Fears & Tariff Tensions Surge

Markets have been thrown into chaos as political drama and weak data send shockwaves across the global economy:

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Trump Fires BLS Chief
In an extraordinary move, Trump sacked the head of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics after job numbers came in well below expectations. Just 73,000 jobs were added in July, with massive downward revisions for May and June.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Economists now warn of stagflation, rising inflation, falling job growth, and slowing demand.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Inflation Rising, Rate Cuts Expected
The Fed's preferred inflation gauge climbed again, even as growth sputtered. This mix of hot inflation and weak jobs data is increasing pressure for a September rate cut.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Gold Surges on Safe-Haven Demand
Amid market uncertainty, gold jumped nearly 2% to $3,347/oz (USD), as investors flocked to safety.

๐ŸŒ India Tariff Fallout: โ€œFrom Tense to Turbulentโ€
India has been blindsided by Trumpโ€™s 25% tariff targeting its exports, one of the harshest in this new trade round.
He slammed Indiaโ€™s trade practices as โ€œobnoxiousโ€ and punished New Delhi for its Russian alliances.
Compared to Bangladesh (20%), Pakistan (19%), and Vietnam (20%), India got a worse deal.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Indian business leaders now fear profit erosion and job cuts, calling the move โ€œa blunt-force political message.โ€
Social media in India erupted in protest, while policymakers scramble to salvage talks.

๐Ÿ“‰ Inflation Slows to 2.1% in June Quarter

The latest CPI print shows inflation easing again, down from 2.4% in March to 2.1% in June. The RBAโ€™s preferred measure (trimmed mean) also fell to 2.7%.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Economists say the data strengthens the case for an August rate cut, with more cuts expected into 2026.

๐Ÿฆ Despite the softening, the RBA kept rates on hold this month, waiting for more data. Unemployment has risen to 4.3%, adding pressure for monetary easing.

Is a rate cut now a done deal?

28/07/2025

๐Ÿ“ข Australia is one of the few developed countries where households hold more money in term deposits than in investments.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Thatโ€™s nearly $1.5 trillion in cash sitting in savings accounts, term deposits and offset accounts earning relatively low returns and waiting for a better opportunity.

And hereโ€™s why that matters nowโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ“‰ With interest rate cuts around the corner, this excess cash is set to flow back into the share market as investors chase higher returns. Not all at once but with each rate drop, expect a wave of renewed market participation.

๐Ÿ“ˆ History shows cash has significantly underperformed other asset classes:
โ€ข Cash: 4.2% p.a. over 30 years
โ€ข Bonds: 5.6%
โ€ข Property: 7.8%
โ€ข Shares: 9.1%

So while cash may feel โ€œsafe,โ€ staying on the sidelines could mean missing the next leg up in the market.

๐Ÿ‘€ For investors, this is a critical window:
The market is primed for inflows, valuations remain attractive, and every rate cut increases the appeal of equities.

๐Ÿ’ก Whether youโ€™re sitting on cash or already invested, nowโ€™s the time to reassess your asset mix and make sure youโ€™re positioned to benefit.

Deterra Royalties (ASX: DRR) is perhaps one of the simplest companies on the ASX, which is not a bad thing. Not only does it make the business easy to understand, a lot of the time the most straightforward business model can often be the best business model.
