Two big data releases this week could set the tone for rates into year-end. 📊

Our Zoran Kresovic joined Ticker News to preview them:

🇺🇸 US CPI (Wed night AEDT): Headline inflation is expected to be around 3.6%, up from 3.4%. Watch core vs headline.

🏦 Fed: Markets see an 81% chance of a hold in November, with a December hike priced in.

🇦🇺 Aussie jobs: Consensus is about 15k. A beat could lift the AUD and yields. A miss could push the Aussie below 70c.

It was smooth sailing for AUDUSD over the past few months, but the past week has uncovered some vulnerabilities. The daily price is trading below the 200-day moving average, a key indicator we’ve previously noted as important. The US is back on a rate raising path, while inflation data in Australia shows a potential peak as aggregate demand softens in response to recent RBA moves. We think the Aussie looks vulnerable here, and we’re changing our view from positive to neutral.

What is scalping in trading?

It’s a short-term strategy that aims to profit from small price moves, often holding trades for just seconds or minutes.

The idea: someone always needs to get out. Even in a rising market, a large sell order can cause a quick dip. Scalpers look to enter on that dip and ride the move back. 📈

Fast, focused, and not for everyone.

Hawkish vs dovish: you’ll hear these terms every time a central bank speaks. 🦅🕊️

Hawks are confident about growth and lean towards higher rates to keep inflation in check.
Doves are more cautious and lean towards lower rates to support the economy.

Markets borrow from the animals. Bulls and bears, hawks and doves: same signal, different sentiment.

Gold’s had a phenomenal run, up over 100% since 2022. 📈

A rise that fast invites a pullback, and H1 2026 delivered: consolidation. Now gold is holding its gains and a base is forming.

Basing can take six months or more, but Q3–Q4 could be setting up the next leg higher.

Not every trade hits the target. The good ones still protect the position.

Looking back on Geneva, the Bonds Flying Roos opened strong, built an early lead in the final, and finished P2 after a late shift on the last leg.

The bigger picture held firm. A Grand Final berth is locked in, and the Roos still sit top of the championship.

Next stop, Abu Dhabi. Time to close it out. 🇦🇺

Is a rate hike coming today? Markets say there's a 90% chance. 🏦

Our analyst Zoran Kresovic sat down with Ticker to break down what the RBA's decision could mean for the ASX 200 and the Aussie dollar. His take is that the hike is already priced in, so all eyes are on what Michelle Bullock signals next. With core inflation at 3.6%, still above the 2–3% target, further tightening can't be ruled out.

Follow the pack, or trust your own line?

When the conditions turn and the pressure builds, the hardest thing is to stick to your own read. Episode 4 of Pursuit goes inside a race where the Bonds Flying Roos faced the leader’s dilemma: cover, or commit.

It's the same discipline traders live by. Staying in through the volatility, managing the risk, and seeing the opportunity others miss.
