Great news for the hounds of finance 🐩🦮🐕🦺🐕
🐾
We know pets bring many mental and physical health benefits. They’re vital companions and much loved members of the family.
But for some residents in strata buildings, owning a pet is still not an option. Blanket pet bans cannot be overturned in Strata buildings if a small minority of 25% vote for them to be retained.
This makes it difficult for families with pets to downsize or relocate, and people shouldn’t have to choose between their pets or a home.
I’ve lived in the inner city for most of my adult life, and for most of that time, our family has had dogs. Creating a pet-friendly City is a high priority for me.
Throughout my parliamentary career and as Lord Mayor, I have asked for legislative change to support renters having pets and recently asked Government to remove ‘no pets clauses’ from rental agreements.
So I’m pleased Jenny Leong will table a petition to stop strata buildings retaining blanket bans of pets to the NSW Parliament.
I’ll be adding my name, I hope you do too.
