As you may be aware, on 27 December 2016 Peter Hall stepped down from his role as Hunter Hall’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and will leave the business in June this year.

I have worked in the investment management team over the past 14 years, 11 of which were in London with Peter, and have been Deputy CIO since 2011. The Board appointed me Interim CIO on 9 January 2017 while they conduct a formal search for Peter's successor.

For those of you who do not already know me, prior to this appointment, I was the fund manager for the Global Equities Trust (GET) and for Hunter Hall's listed investment company Hunter Hall Global Value Limited (ASX: HHV) - representing funds under management of $93.1 million and $308 million respectively (as at 31 December 2016). These trusts represent approximately 40% of total funds under management.

The Hunter Hall investment management team is a very stable team with an average 7.6 years serving Hunter Hall's investors.

I work with my seven colleagues in the investment management team and Peter to ensure the continuity of the investment philosophy that Peter and the team have successfully developed and employed over many years now. We have also put in place a seamless transition of the management of the funds for which Peter was personally responsible.

Our focus remains on making sure every stock continues to meet our value investing criteria and ethical screen. For those of you who are not familiar with the members of the Hunter Hall Investment Management Team I would like to introduce them to you:

This letter has also been mailed to all HHL shareholders. It is important information regarding the off-market takeover offer for HHL that was lodged yesterday by Washington H. Soul Pattinson & Co. Limited.

The process for the offer by Washington H. Soul Pattinson & Co. Limited will take some time to proceed and we will keep shareholders updated with the information they require to assess the offer. Shareholders should wait to receive both the bidder’s and target statements over the coming weeks in order to fully assess what action to take.

The November 2016 monthly performance report for the Hunter Hall Australian Value Trust (AVT) is available. This fund has achieved a compound annual return of 8% pa since inception (29/11/2001).
