Trina's Story

Trina is a mother who now works full-time, and her husband is the caregiver of 5 children.

Trina was approved for a car loan despite the fact she was receiving only parenting payments at the time and had many other debts. This caused her a lot of hardship.

We raised a dispute with her lender that the loan was never affordable and raised concerns that she was sold a junk extended warranty. The lender offered to reduce the debt to what she borrowed with no interest or fees.

National Reconciliation week is held annually from 27 May to June.

It is a time that commemorates two significant milestones in the journey to reconciliation, The successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo Decision.

It is a time that encourages all Australians to actively come on a journey towards creating meaningful change and an inclusive Australia, acknowledging the unique histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations peoples.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

Savings accounts can help you reach your savings goals.

Savings accounts usually earn interest on the money you have in the account.

They usually do not have a debit card connect to the account, making it harder to spend.

Many people in Australia are being scammed and having their money stolen, sometimes even their life savings. Scams hurt people’s lives. Scams are getting harder to spot, so we need to work together to stop them.

STOP: Don’t give money or personal information to anyone. Scammers will offer to help you or ask you to verify who you are. They will pretend to be from organisations you know and use, like businesses, the police, your bank or government services.

CHECK: Could the message or call be fake? Never click a link in a text message or reply. If you’re not sure, say ‘no’, hang up or delete.

PROTECT: Act quickly if something feels wrong. Contact your bank if you notice unusual activity or if a scammer gets your money or information. Seek help and report the scam to Scamwatch. When you report scams, you help us stop the scam and warn others.

Visit scamwatch.gov.au or call the First Nations Infoline on 1300 303 143 for more information.
