👋🏾 there,
Some think social enterprise is new. We beg to differ.
It has been a whirlwind trip to Sri Lanka, celebrating a wedding, sorting family matters and meeting some extraordinary impact businesses along the way.
In a country that has faced so many challenges, it is deeply inspiring to see leaders who simply keep going.
We met a number of larger scale impact businesses across solar projects, regenerative agriculture, organic fertilisers, eco tourism and even an impact BPO. Our cup was full. We talked so much my voice started to fade.
Now, to social enterprises.
There is growing government interest across the Anglo-west in localising economies and supporting social enterprise.
What is encouraging is that this thinking is not new elsewhere.
At the airport in Sri Lanka, I came across .srilanka , a government run social enterprise supporting over 6,000 livelihoods.
Better for the planet, and better for the people who are fairly rewarded for their work. This institution has been running since 1964.
If you are visiting Sri Lanka, please buy your souvenirs and products from Laksala. Every purchase counts.
We are witnessing a structural shift in how the world works.
It may feel uncertain at times.
But always remember, anything is possible.
Together, we can make a better world more probable.
Kindly,
Bob Sudharshan
