10 Tips that will help you succeed in your own business
As a business owner, it is inevitable to take a few wrong turns, experience some setbacks and going off the plan. To combat that and get you back into the "zone" may I suggest that you rely on the never ending support from friends, colleagues and family.
1. It's not all about numbers. You get many statistics and numbers when you do your research for your business. Some say that 95% of businesses fail. But don't listen to them because running a business is more than just numbers. Of course, you can take them as guide when making business decisions but in the end, you have to go with your gut feeling.
2. Do something you love. Don't start a business just because it's on trend or it is forecasted to bloom in the next few years. If your heart isn't into what you're doing, you'll never experience real happiness. It will be your passion that will keep you going in the years to come.
3. You don't know everything. Despite all your studies and research, you have to accept the fact that you don't know everything. Once you're reconciled with this idea, it will be easier for you to learn along and accept advise from other people. And yes, don't stop learning.
4. Don't work with someone just because it's convenient. Never partner with a family member because your relationship might be affected in the future. Having th wrong partner will drive you crazy, make you hate him or her and will lead to your business failure. Find a partner who will make you stronger and will contribute to your success.
5. Finish what you started. A lot of business owners are guilty of this. When you start something, make sure that you will see it through the end. Plan wisely before starting a business to avoid regrets.
6. Handling staff takes a lot of patience. Managing people is a stressful and time-consuming task. So before your operation gets big, hire an assistant early on to help you manage your people and your day to day operations.
7. There's no such thing as early marketing. You don't have to spend a lot on your marketing but if you can start on the small strategies, that would help a lot when you decide to market full time. You can start with setting up your social media accounts, designing simple fliers or creating your email signature.
8. Your family matters more than your business. Don't focus all your energy into your business that you forget your kids and family.
9. Read a lot. Don't stop learning.
10. Find some time to relax. All work and no play will make your stress pile up. Achieving work-life balance is easier said than done but taking a few moment to relax and enjoy your coffee helps a lot.
