The Reserve Bank of Australia has just announced it will keep the cash rate on hold at 3.60%, following today’s Melbourne Cup Day meeting.

With inflation still running hotter than expected, the RBA has opted for caution — choosing to wait for clearer signs that price pressures are easing before making any move.

The next RBA Board decision will be handed down on December 9th

The Albanese Government has announced major changes to its proposed superannuation tax reforms - backing away from the plan to tax unrealised capital gains.

Instead, the focus will now be on realised gains only, with a new two-tier tax structure:

• Super balances between $3 million and $10 million taxed at 30%
• Balances above $10 million taxed at 40%

The thresholds will be indexed to inflation, and the Low Income Super Tax Offset (LISTO) will rise to $810, with the income cap increasing to $45,000 by 2027.

These changes are set to take effect from 1 July 2026, and could have big implications for your retirement and investment strategy.
