At first glance, dividend yields on major US ETFs often appear lower than typical Australian dividend plays.

While Australian companies traditionally distribute a higher proportion of profits as cash dividends (a culture reinforced by franking credits), US companies tend to balance cash distributions with share buybacks and reinvesting earnings back into business expansion.

Because total return reflects both cash income and share price appreciation, many US dividend ETFs focus on dividend growth and balance sheet strength rather than chasing the highest headline yield.

This provides exposure to regular distributions alongside the potential for capital growth, with fund management fees starting from as low as 0.03% p.a.

(Note: management fees vary by fund; additional brokerage, FX conversion fees, currency risk and taxes such as US withholding tax apply to international investments).

With Anthropic reportedly gearing up for an IPO, the artificial intelligence lab is said to be targeting a US$2 trillion valuation.

If completed at this level, the float could eclipse SpaceX’s landmark debut earlier this year to become the most valuable initial public offering in corporate history.

Anthropic’s high-profile register spans the global AI tech stack, from hyperscalers like Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Salesforce, to critical memory leaders Micron and SK Hynix.

Among them sits an Australian name: Commonwealth Bank (ASX: CBA), which holds direct balance-sheet equity, carrying its unlisted stake at A$1,527 million as of 30 June 2026.

The battle for compute is reaching unprecedented scale. Major AI players and hyperscalers (OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic, Amazon) are locking in tens of billions in long-term contracts and equity deals with specialised neoclouds.

Unlike traditional cloud giants (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) that offer broad, all-in-one software ecosystems, neoclouds are specialised, high-performance infrastructure providers built specifically for intensive AI workloads, high-density GPU clusters, and massive power requirements.

Even some crypto miners have pivoted. Companies like TeraWulf, Riot, and Cipher Digital are reallocating data centre capacity directly to AI compute.

While near-term growth for neoclouds is secured by massive multi-year contracts, their long-term survival hinges on managing rapid chip depreciation and avoiding a low-margin utility trap.
