💡 How did Will kick start his career, alongside a team of world-class mathematicians, statisticians, and technologists? 🌏

Will graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Science Majoring in Mathematics and Statistics and a Bachelor in Computer Science, despite this, there is no one pathway to Quantitative Trading.

The Akuna Sydney Quantitative team is composed of people from many unique backgrounds.

Learn how Will started as a Quantitative Trader 👇

“I started at Akuna Sydney as a Trading Intern and made the switch to the quantitative team. I had conversations about joining the Quantitative team with my manager after receiving an offer as a Trading Graduate - Because of my background with a Mathematics and Computer Science dual degree, I completed some coding interviews and was successful in the final round interviews with my now manager.”

How do you prepare for Quantitative Trading Interviews at Akuna?

👩‍💻 Demonstrate Fluency in a relevant coding language such as Python and have solid understanding of probability and statistics. They are the big ones!

💸 ❌I didn’t study finance and had limited knowledge of pricing models coming from university, however being enthusiastic and displaying an interest in what we do here certainly helps you stand out!

If you’re studying mathematics, statistics and are a strong technologist, see if Quantitative Trading could be for you.

Applications for penultimate internships as well as graduate quantitative roles are open now, apply now at https://lnkd.in/ee5_2jcx . We hire on a rolling basis, which means once we've filled the roles we will close applications.

Lydia’s Top Tips for Akuna Sydney's Quant Researcher Interviews 👇

Lydia is a Graduate Quantitative Researcher at the Akuna Sydney Office. We asked her what her advice is for anyone preparing to interview as a Quant Researcher at Akuna. Here are her top tips:

➡ Interviewers are interested in how you think as well as the bare bones of what you know - try to stay calm in interviews and think through your reasoning aloud, even if you feel like you don't know the answer

➡ Be prepared to talk about what interests you and what you like about research

➡ Before the online assessments particularly, it’s worth doing some quick revision of the topics you feel you know least well as they cover a broad range of topics (statistics, calculus, as well as machine learning).

This is part one of our Akuna Graduate Quant Info series. Keep an eye out for our breakdown from our Graduates from the Quantitative Trading and Quantitative Development space! 🎉

Finn is given five different brands of cola in five unmarked, identical glasses and attempts a blind taste test, guessing which brand of cola is in each glass. He knows the name of all five brands ahead of time and must assign a unique brand to each sample.

If Finn guesses randomly, what is the chance that Finn gets 0 out of 5 of his guesses correct? Express your answer as a fraction.

Optional: can you find a general formula for n brands of cola in n glasses?

The Answer will be revealed on the 9th of June! Get solving and good luck 🌊

Question:

Bob and John are playing a betting game of multiple rounds. Each round, they both draw a single card from a deck consisting of only three cards: 1 Queen, 1 King, and 1 Ace. Whoever reveals to have the higher card wins the round.

The round begins with a $1 bet from each player. After both players look at their own card, Bob has the option to raise an additional $1. If Bob raises, John has the option to match by putting in $1 too (and seeing who has the higher card), or fold and lose the bet without revealing any cards.

Assume that John can play the best possible strategy to counter what Bob does, what is the highest $ amount that Bob could be expected to win from this game per round?
