BEWARE……it’s Christmas for SCAMMERS TOO….

⚠️ Remote Access Scams – What You Need to Know

Remote access scams are on the rise, and even smart, careful people are being targeted. Here’s what you need to watch out for.

🔍 What is a Remote Access Scam?

A scammer tries to convince you to let them access your phone or computer. Once in, they can see your banking, steal info, or take control of your device.

🎭 Common Tricks

Scammers often pretend to be from:
• Your bank
• Telstra/NBN
• Microsoft/Apple
• The ATO

They’ll say things like:
• “Your internet has been compromised.”
• “There’s suspicious activity on your account.”
• “We accidentally deposited money into your bank.”
• “You must act now.”

🚨 Red Flags
• Unexpected calls
• Asking you to download AnyDesk, TeamViewer, QuickSupport, etc.
• Urgent pressure
• Asking you to log into your bank while on the phone

🛡️ How to Protect Yourself

✔ Never give remote access
✔ Hang up and call the organisation using the number on their website
✔ Enable 2-factor authentication
✔ Keep devices updated

📞 If You Think You’ve Been Scammed

Call your bank immediately, change passwords, and disconnect your device from the internet.

If you’re ever unsure – message me

SCAM ALERT

Good morning ☀️

Thought I’d share a scam attempt on 1 of my clients yesterday.

The text message was:

ATO231: You have an unclaimed credit resulting from an audit on your 2023 tax return. Visit: new-inbox-my.services for more details.

This client did the right thing - logged into her MyGov to check if there were any messages , then contacted me.

Never NEVER click on the link provided from a text without independently verifying it.

A GENUINE message would read like this:

You have a new message in your myGov Inbox. Sign in to your myGov account to get your message. Do not reply by SMS.

*** Notice that it states NOT to reply to the SMS + to log into MyGov. No links to click on.

Stay vigilant people.

Day 2…..fresh attempt at a Scam

This time calling from a Victorian area code (03) stating she was from Telstra…..”the last couple of days we have detected your internet is not Private!”

Told her I didn’t believe her….she then Hung up.

Ridiculous

Frustrating

Time wasting

Be vigilant people.

Scam ALERT

Just sharing a phone call I received from an Australian mobile number claiming to be from the Commonwealth Bank!

1st RED FLAG - companies don’t call you from a mobile number!!!

Tried to tell me he was investigating an overseas transaction…. challenged him to tell me my full name & what my last 2 deposits were into my bank account.

To my surprise he did know my middle name, initial only though! RED FLAG number 2…. They should know it

He then had enough & hung up.

Be vigilant people.
