What is artificial intelligence
- You can't see or feel artificial intelligence. It is a program that takes a sequence of data and analyzes it. The result can be face recognition, text recognition, text generation, and many other things to which the characteristic "template approach" applies," says Mikhail Savchenko, technical director of Chrono.tech.
- Artificial intelligence in the broad sense is a set of methods and models that receive data and draw a certain conclusion on their basis. This can be the assignment of a photo to a certain class, the grouping of texts on similar topics or predicting the exchange rate. What all models have in common is the extraction of knowledge from the data. Calculation of a single function that can contain millions and even billions of parameters," says Ilya Makarov, program director of MADE Big Data Academy at Mail.ru.
In essence, AI is a program, like some notorious text editor. But what makes it different is that it can learn.
- The program itself is a set of code and a knowledge base, which it acquired in the process of learning. Both are just a collection of data on the hard drive of some computer," notes Evgeny Karpov, manager of the AI products firm Cifra.
Experts note that the notion is often speculated on, especially in the marketing of various products.
- We can distinguish a more intelligent person by his behavior and his ability to find the right solutions for more complex tasks. In the same way, a system with artificial intelligence is distinguished not by its special appearance, but by its behavior and the tasks it is able to solve. Developers, of course, can "see" artificial intelligence in the text of the algorithm," explains Alexei Diachenko, Deputy General Director of Open Technologies.
The essence of artificial intelligence
Like any other computer program, AI works by taking data, analyzing it and giving results. But the essence of artificial intelligence lies in its peculiarities.
- The structure differs from the usual program: an artificial neural network, which after the creation of the programmer goes through a learning process so that the results of the analysis of data was as accurate, - says Alexei Diachenko.
If we just explain the essence of AI, the algorithm has two modes: operation and training.
- For example, we have AI, which determines whether a person wears a helmet in the factory or not. To make it work, we show it 10 000 pictures of people wearing helmets and say that these are people wearing helmets, and then we show it 10 000 pictures of people without helmets and say that they are without helmets. Then we put it into run mode and show it a new photo. And our AI can already determine whether the person is wearing a helmet or not. Thanks to this, we can signal a safety violation and save workers from dangerous injuries," says Evgeny Karpov.
But the essence of artificial intelligence is not limited to this example. One of the most important components of the technology is self-learning.
- In addition to the initial information, the algorithm is able to receive and process new information.
