Working in life insurance, we see what a cancer diagnosis can do to a family. So we put together a care kit for people going through treatment. A bag you can grab on the way to an appointment, with a journal, a hand cream, a tea to settle your stomach, a few lollies for when nothing tastes right and a Blind Date with a Book.

This month a batch went to Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, where they’ll go to cancer patients. We hope these little kits bring some comfort on what can be a really tough day.

Thank you to the team at Lifehouse for getting them to the people who’ll use them, and to MooGoo Skin Care and Elizabeth's Bookshops in Newtown for what goes inside.

A very special milestone at Orbital Life, Mark Johnston has officially been authorised to give insurance and financial advice.

Mark joined us with two decades of financial advisory expertise in South Africa. Over the past 18 months, he has brought his passion for client service and wealth of knowledge to Orbital Life while learning the Australian system from the inside. Through his work, Mark has already built meaningful relationships with our clients and fully aligned with our ways of working.

Most of what we do is quiet work, sitting with a client to help them plan and protect their family and their financial future. And while we’ve been nose down in our work (and it feels like in the blink of an eye!) our team has also had a lot of exciting changes, from new starters to graduations and even new family members! So getting everyone in one place for dinner to celebrate and reconnect was overdue and well worth the effort.

The ring was insured before it left the jeweller.

Fair enough. It cost a fortune and it has a habit of sliding off in cold water.

Now think about the thing that paid for it. Your income across a working life adds up to more than almost everything you own put together, and for many people it is the one asset sitting there with no cover on it at all.

Income protection pays you a portion of your income if illness or injury stops you working, so the mortgage keeps getting paid while you get better. It is usually the first cover we talk through with a new client, because it is the one holding everything else up.

You met Gwen a few weeks ago. This is what the weeks since have looked like.

Llanjelyn has been walking her through everything, from setting up a new client file to the small habits that keep an application moving. That kind of knowledge never makes it into a manual. It gets handed over one conversation at a time.

Our administrators are the reason things arrive when they should and nothing quietly slips. When a claim is paid quickly or an application clears without fuss, there is usually one of these two behind it.
