The number one cause of income protection claims in Australia isn't an accident, and it's not cancer.

It's mental health. 29% of all claims.

Most people who take out income protection are picturing a broken leg or a surgery. Something physical and visible. Something that happens to other people.

Mental health conditions don't announce themselves in advance. They don't wait until it's convenient. And they can make working impossible in ways that are just as real as any physical injury.

If your income protection policy doesn't include mental health cover, or if you don't have income protection at all, that's a gap worth knowing about.

The average default life insurance in Australian super pays out around $135,000.

The average new mortgage in Australia is over $650,000.

Most people assume they're covered through super. And technically, they are. But "covered" and "covered enough" are two very different things.

If your family had to live on a $135,000 payout while managing a $650,000 mortgage, how long would that last?

It takes about 15 minutes to find out what you actually have inside your super, what the default cover pays out, and whether it matches what your family would actually need. We do that review with people every day.

If you haven't had one done, it's worth it.

Your income is your biggest asset.

Think about it this way. If you earn $100,000 a year and work for the next 30 years, that's $3 million in future earnings. No investment you make is likely to come close to that.

And yet the thing that generates all of it (ie. your ability to earn) is often completely unprotected.

Income protection, life insurance, trauma cover. These aren't complicated products. They're straightforward ways of making sure that if something happens to you, your income doesn't disappear with you.

We help you figure out what cover makes sense for your situation. Not what sounds good on paper. What actually fits your life.

20,000 Australians under 50 will be diagnosed with cancer this year.

Most of them will have health insurance. Most of them will have some level of support through the medical system. What most of them won't have is a lump sum payment that lands in their bank account on diagnosis, so they can take time off, cover their mortgage, and focus entirely on getting well.

That's what trauma cover does. It pays out when you're diagnosed with a serious illness, like cancer, stroke, heart attack, without you having to prove you can't work. Just the diagnosis.

And yes, you can take out cover for your children.

If you've never looked at trauma cover, or you're not sure whether what you have is enough, it's worth a conversation.

You've insured the house. The cars. The phones.

The person paying for all of it might be worth insuring too.

Life insurance isn't about thinking the worst. It's about making sure that if the worst did happen, money wouldn't be the thing your family has to worry about on top of everything else.

A 15-minute conversation with our team at Shire Life Insurance will tell you exactly what you have, what you need, and what it would cost. No jargon. No pressure.

If you couldn't work for six months, how long would your savings last?

Most people haven't actually done the maths. And that's completely normal. It's not the kind of thing that comes up over dinner.

But it's worth spending a few minutes on, because the gap between what most people have saved and what they'd actually need is larger than they expect.

Income protection insurance exists to bridge that gap. It pays a percentage of your salary while you're unable to work, so your mortgage, your bills, and your family don't become the thing you're trying to solve while you're also trying to recover.

If you're not sure what you have or whether it's enough, we can help you figure it out.

44% of Australians have no life insurance. Not through super. Not standalone. Nothing.

We insure our cars, our phones, our pets, our holidays. We take out insurance on things we could, if we had to, replace. And then we leave the one thing that generates all of it completely unprotected.

It's not laziness. It's just that nobody has ever sat down with you and walked through what you actually have, what you actually need, and what the gap looks like.

That conversation is what we do. And it takes less time than you'd think.

Good news for local families πŸ’œ
A breakthrough at Liverpool Hospital is changing what a cancer diagnosis means.

Their new MRI-guided cryoablation freezes tumours with a tiny probe; no major surgery, often home the same day. One patient, Josephine (64), woke up pain-free the day after her spinal tumour was treated.

When serious illness hits, you need two things:
1. Great medical care, and
2. Financial breathing room.

We can't control the first, but we can help with the second, that's what trauma and cancer cover is built for.

If you'd like to chat about a safety net for your family, send us a message. We're here to help.
