We need to talk about your tax money.

If you’re putting money aside for tax, but it’s just sitting in the same account as your spending money… you’re making life WAY harder than it needs to be.

Having a separate tax account means:
- You know exactly what’s yours to spend
- You’re less likely to accidentally dip into your tax money
- Tax time feels a whole lot less stressful
- And you can actually see what you’ve got set aside

That tax money was never really yours to spend anyway.

So, do you have a separate tax account… or are we being a little bit of a baddie? 😂

Because honestly, when I see people posting all of this on socials, my first thought is always:

How the hell are you doing it all, sis?

The dinners.
The holidays.
The kids’ activities.
The nice house.
The new car.

Like… what am I missing?

Running a business is complicated enough without an ATO bill sitting in the back of your mind.

And I know how easy it is to keep thinking, “I’ll get on top of it next month.”

Then next month comes, the business needs the cash, and the balance is still sitting there.

If you’ve got ATO debt, I don’t want you to panic. But I also wouldn’t ignore it.

Depending on your circumstances, there may be lending strategies worth looking at that could help create some breathing room and get you back in control of your cash flow.

The important part is looking at the whole picture, not just the tax debt.

Everyone says, “We could never afford to build.”

But have you actually sat down and worked out what the numbers could look like?

For example, on an $800,000 land + build package, a 5% deposit would be $40,000.

That can sound like a huge number.

But if you were working towards that over 2 years, that's around $385 a fortnight between you and your partner.

And depending on your circumstances, there may also be government schemes and stamp duty concessions available that could make the upfront costs more manageable.

Sometimes seeing the numbers properly changes the conversation completely.

I’ll go first. I’m a mum of two, a small business owner and a mortgage broker. I’ve seen plenty of life’s ups and downs, and I know everyone’s circumstances are different.

That’s actually one of the things I love about what I do. No two people have the same story, income or plans for the future, and that matters when it comes to finance.

I think sometimes we look at someone and think, “She has it all figured out.”

The house.
The business.
The career.
The nice clothes.
The team around her.

But we don't see the years of figuring it out.

The things she went without.
The things she had to learn herself.
The times she had to back herself before anyone else did.
The seasons where doing it all herself was the only option.

I definitely didn't have it all figured out.

I just kept taking the next step, even when I had no idea where it would lead.

And looking back now, I'm pretty proud of how far I've come.
