Working for yourself can be lonely, so I choose to celebrate here.
Recruitment debt - 19k, been chasing since April 2025, yikes.
The longest standing debt, finally paid a total of 38k instead.

An absolute doozy.
Other side's solicitor agreed it was owed.
Still went through court and insolvency proceedings.
Every step of the way dragging the other side, kicking and screaming.

The frustrating part is this SHOULD have been resolved within 1 week last year for 19k.
Instead, we now have 38k covering all costs involved.
Took initiating liquidation, but it was worth it in the end.

Definitely the most ridiculous case I've ever worked.
Definitely giving my solicitor all the credit where it's due (Luke you are amazing).
Definitely time for a celebration coffee out this morning!

2 labour-hire companies ghosted.
Now 2 labour-hire companies paid.

Both due Oct-Dec 2025.
Within a few days, paid to our trust account.

You can choose to chase for months.
Or you can take action now.

"I'm not going to pay yet until I know the candidate will stay."
Apparently we can forget the contract and the protections in it.
Now, 4 months in, the client was asking for another delay for payment.

Creditormate engaged.
48hrs the fee is paid.

Taking the first step is sometimes all it takes.
Or you can wait another 4 months for the next 'dispute' to come.

That is what makes another happy Friday!

Placement 1st March 2024.
Full hiring process taken place.
Invoice is sent ➡️ "We don't accept your terms"

The full argument I got was:
- Never formally agreed to terms.
- Candidate was hired to directors other company (under same branding).
- Hired for a different job title.

But it was blatant stealing.
Attempts to resolve fell flat.
Any sound reasoning was getting vague snarky remarks.

So we moved forward and took action.
And payment hit the account.

Things start to move quick when there is an ultimatum.
But it takes a little more when the invoice is older.

What this means for you is to have a real process in place for your accounts.
The longer it sits, the more the other side will set in their ways.
Have a final consequence in your process which will 'wake up' your client to pay.

This could be:
- Added fees
- Credit default
- Send to collectors
- Cessation of further work

Make sure whatever it is, that it has real impact.

I've been silly busy lately.

No time for doom-scrolling LinkedIn (apparently I need a hobby).

RECRUITERS, take that as a WARNING.

I'm getting new clients all with 1 of 2 stories.

"15 years doing this, never had a problem until now"
"Been in business for 3 years, lucky this is the first time"

On my end, I know it won't be another 15 years waiting for the next one.
More likely 6 months.

Take the WARNING
- Vet your clients ferociously
- Get signed contracts
- Ensure your client understands their obligations
- Don't let the invoice go overdue

Recruitment isn't easy at the moment.

Don't make it harder on yourself.

The final decision to hire a candidate is on your client.

When they regret their decision, all of a sudden it's your fault.

Not because they did not give an accurate job description.

Or because they did not budget for the fees.

Or because they failed to notify within the replacement guarantee period that there were any alleged issues.

Do your contracts ensure that once they engage the candidate, it's end of story?

Otherwise next thing you know, the invoice will be 6 months overdue with requests for a replacement because of their oversight.

Don't get stuck.

I've reached the point of stopping attempts to make sense of recruiters not getting paid.
Too many matters in 2025/6 which still hurt my head, like this one.

I get financial hardship, and all empathy awarded where it is due.

But for 100k of perm recruitment done 6 months ago and not a cent paid?
Payment receipts which are cancelled?
Pretending to resolve without doing anything?

Yikes.

Guess who is getting liquidated today?

Sadly, this seems to be the new pattern.
If it's not disputed, the delays continue until a miracle comes through.
By that time, recruiters are last on the payment schedule.

A stark reminder to draw the line of being your client's number 1 friend and their number 1 priority.
