Weโ€™re at the AusPet Industry Expo this week ๐Ÿพ

If youโ€™re heading along, make sure you pop by and say hello to Sandra at Stand 59.
Itโ€™s always a great chance to have a chat with people in the pet industry about the kinds of insurance questions they actually have in the real world โ€” not the fluffy brochure version.

If you run a pet-related business, work in grooming, retail, services or supply, insurance is one of those things that tends to get pushed down the listโ€ฆ right up until something goes wrong. Funny how that works.

If youโ€™re at the expo, come and have a chat. No hard sell. Just straight answers and helpful advice.

SPRING'S NEARLY HERE. IS YOUR COVER READY FOR IT? ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ“‹

Winter's on its way out, and with it comes the lead-up to storm season across Queensland. Now's the smart time to get ahead of it, before insurers get busy and premiums start creeping with demand.

A few things worth putting on your spring to-do list:
โœ“ Review your Home and Contents sum insured, rebuilding costs don't stand still
โœ“ Check your roof, gutters and trees are in good shape before the first storms hit
โœ“ Make sure any changes from the past few months (new gear, new car, new tenant) are actually reflected in your policies

We'll be diving into storm season prep properly over the coming months, but there's no harm getting a head start now while things are quiet.

Want a full policy review before spring officially kicks off? We're ready when you are ๐Ÿ™Œ

SMART HOME DEVICES: MORE THAN JUST A GADGET ๐Ÿ“น๐Ÿ

Video doorbells, smart locks, alarm systems, if you've added any of these to your place, it's worth telling your insurer.

Some Home and Contents insurers offer premium discounts for homes with monitored alarm systems or verified smart security devices installed. It varies by insurer, but it's a simple thing worth checking rather than assuming.

Beyond the potential discount, there are genuine benefits too:
โœ“ Faster response if something does happen
โœ“ Video evidence that can support a claim
โœ“ A visible deterrent that can put opportunistic thieves off entirely

If you've upgraded your home security recently and haven't mentioned it to your insurer, you could be missing out on a cheaper premium for something you've already paid for.

Added smart security to your home? Let us know and we'll check if it can save you anything on your policy.

TOOL THEFT IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR TRADIES ๐Ÿ”จ๐Ÿšจ

In Victoria alone, more than $40.8 million worth of hand and power tools were stolen from vehicles and properties in the year to June 2025, a 7.5% jump on the year before. It's a trend playing out across the country, not just one state.

And here's the part that really stings: most personal car insurance policies exclude tools used for work, especially overnight or left in a ute.

If your gear isn't specifically covered under Portable Equipment or Tools of Trade insurance, you could be one break-in away from a very expensive week off work.

Quick tips in the meantime:
โœ“ Never leave tools visible in an unlocked vehicle overnight
โœ“ Photograph and record serial numbers for everything valuable
โœ“ Consider a lockable, anchored toolbox for the ute

Not sure if your tools are actually covered? Let's check before you need to find out the hard way.

SPRING'S ALMOST HERE, IS YOUR BOAT READY? โ›ตโ˜€๏ธ

With warmer weekends just around the corner, it's the perfect time to get ahead before everyone else remembers they own a boat.

Before the boating season properly kicks off:
โœ“ Check your Pleasurecraft policy is still current and matches your vessel's actual value
โœ“ Confirm your cover includes towing and rescue, not just damage to the boat itself
โœ“ Review your liability limits if you'll be taking more people out on the water this season

Insurers (and marinas) tend to get busy the moment the weather turns, so sorting your cover now means you're not stuck waiting when everyone else has the same idea.

Want to make sure your Pleasurecraft cover is spring ready? Get in touch and we'll check it over before the season gets going.

WHAT DOES A BROKER ACTUALLY DO FOR YOU? ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ“‹

Good question, and honestly, a lot more than just "finding you a quote."

Here's what having a broker in your corner actually means:
โœ“ We compare across multiple insurers, not just push one company's product
โœ“ We know the fine print, the exclusions that matter, and the ones that don't
โœ“ If you ever need to claim, we advocate for you, not the insurer
โœ“ We keep track of renewals so things don't lapse without you noticing

The biggest difference? We work for you, not the insurance company. A call centre is trying to sell you their product. We're trying to find you the right one.

If you've never actually used a broker before and you're not sure what the fuss is about, give us a try and see the difference for yourself.

WHY DOES MY PREMIUM GO UP EVERY YEAR? ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ˜ค

Fair question, and one we hear constantly at renewal time.

A few of the biggest drivers behind rising premiums in Australia right now:
โœ“ Rebuilding and repair costs have climbed sharply since 2019
โœ“ More frequent extreme weather events means insurers are pricing in more risk
โœ“ Your own claims history and even changes in your local area can shift your premium

Here's the thing though, a renewal increase isn't always something you just have to accept. Sometimes it makes sense to adjust your excess, review your sum insured, or shop your cover around to see if you're still getting a fair deal.

That's genuinely where a broker earns their keep, we're not stuck with one insurer's pricing.

Premium gone up more than you expected this year? Send us your renewal and we'll take an honest look at it.

๐Ÿ’™ **A little Camino update!**

Iโ€™m very excited to share that **over $1,000 has already been raised** for my Camino de Santiago challenge supporting Ovarian Cancer Australia! ๐ŸŽ‰

Honestly, thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. I still have a long way to go (both with the fundraising AND eventually with the walking ๐Ÿ˜‚), but seeing the support already coming in is pretty amazing.

The Camino isnโ€™t until 2027, so thereโ€™s plenty of training ahead and Iโ€™m sure my walking shoes and I are going to become very well acquainted! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

This is something that means a lot to me and every donation, big or small, is helping Ovarian Cancer Australia continue the important work they do.

If youโ€™d like to help me keep that fundraising total moving upwards, you can donate here ๐Ÿ‘‡

And to everyone who has already donated โ€” **THANK YOU!** ๐Ÿ’™ I really do appreciate your support.

Sandra

Hi Everyone, I'm endeavouring to raise $6,000 (or more with hope and hard work) to help Ovarian Cancer Australia. Your donation through this page would assist with my goal. This cause is close to my heart as my sister is living with ovarian cancer and has been for some time now - she is amazing. Don...

SELLING WHAT YOU MAKE? THIS ONE'S FOR YOU ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

Candles, jewellery, baked goods, skincare, whatever your craft is, if you're selling products you've made, Product Liability is worth understanding.

It's a bit different to Public Liability. Where Public Liability covers injury or damage that happens because of your actions, Product Liability covers claims if something you've actually made or sold causes harm, think an allergic reaction, a faulty item, or packaging that fails.

It's usually bundled together with Public Liability rather than sold completely separately, but not every policy automatically includes it, so it pays to check.

If your side hustle has grown from "just a hobby" into genuinely selling products, it's worth a proper look at what you're covered for.

Making and selling your own products? Let's make sure your cover actually matches what you're making.
