Clarence Valley Independent
September 4, 2026
Clarence Valley Community Financial Services Limited, trading as Bendigo Community Bank South Grafton, has announced the appointment of Steve Pickering as Chair of the Board.
The appointment was confirmed at a recent Board meeting after previous Chair Karen Toms stepped down from the board.
Since opening its doors in South Grafton, the Community Bank has returned almost $1 million to local organisations, projects and initiatives through sponsorships, grants and community partnerships. The Board also acknowledged the significant contribution of outgoing Chair Karen Toms, who has served as a director since 2012.
Mrs Toms thanked shareholders, customers, staff and fellow directors for their support throughout her time on the Board.
“The Community Bank model is something our community can be proud of. The support of our customers and shareholders has enabled almost $1 million to be invested back into local organisations and initiatives across the Clarence Valley.
“I thank everyone who has contributed to the success of the Community Bank and wish Steve every success as Chair. I am confident the organisation will continue to make a positive difference across our Region.”
Incoming Chair Steve Pickering said he was honoured to take on the role and looked forward to building on the organisation’s strong foundations.
“Community banking is about more than financial services. It is about supporting local organisations, creating opportunities and ensuring the success of the Community Bank delivers benefits back to the communities we serve.
“The Clarence Valley has embraced the Community Bank model for more than two decades and I look forward to working with our directors, staff, shareholders and customers to build on the achievements of the past 25 years and continue making a positive contribution across the Clarence Valley.”
Mr Pickering brings more than two decades of experience working across business, government and community organisations, with a strong background in leadership and governance.
The Board also appointed current director Rick Murray to the role of Company Secretary.
As Bendigo Community Bank South Grafton enters its 26th year, it remains committed to providing local banking services and continuing its investment in communities throughout the Clarence Valley.
