Wow, there arenât many moments in life that feel this pivotal. Iâm âupdating my positionâ at First Command on LinkedIn today, but this isnât a career shift, itâs a calling.
Pictured below youâll see my dad on the left and me graduating Fast Start Academy on the right. It was a long and hard week, after a long and hard journey through the process of becoming a licensed Financial Advisor. One thing I was continually moved by in training with our company is that they drew everything back to our âWhy.â My dad is a huge part of my âWhy.â
He served in the Air Force during Vietnam; he had last served at Travis. He got cancer for the first time in his early 40s and continued to battle it through three bouts that totaled over 20 years of his life, due to chemical exposure during service. He was a fighter, and we met many fighters just like him throughout his treatment. He fought his VA claim for 13 years and it didnât go through until the last two years of his life, for all of the time prior he was living on minimal social security because he didnât have a plan and he didnât have a coach. He deserved better and so do all of our nations service members and veterans. Iâve seen the level of sacrifice that fighting to protect our freedoms requires, not just in my dadâs life but in so many others. I could not be more humbled at the opportunity to help as many as I can to pursue the financial security that they deserve. He passed this past December, which was the same month that I had committed to this calling. Cheers to you dad đť this is for you. â¤ď¸
Please take a moment to remember everyone deployed and remember that their service goes far beyond that deployment.
