Samford Avenue of Honour Samford Avenue of Honour This will be one of the most significant Avenues of Honour commenced in Queensland over the last 50 years.

The Samford Avenue of Honour will comprise a unique pedestrian pathway of some 700 metres in length stretching from Burton Lane to the Soccer Fields. Twenty advanced hoop pines have been planted to honour the sacrifices of 20 local servicemen in both World Wars and the Korean conflict. Eighty additional smaller trees will be planted bringing the total to 100 trees to mark the Centenary in 2015 of

the ANZAC Gallipoli campaign. THE PROJECT
The Samford RSL Sub-Branch is working closely with other partner organisations including the Samford Lions Club, Rotary Club of Samford Valley and the Moreton Bay Regional Council in order to deliver this significant community project by 25 April 2015. The Avenue of Honour will not only recognise the significance of the Centenary of ANZAC but will provide an important link between Samford Village, the Samford Parklands recreational facilities and the wider trail network. ANZAC DAY 2023 NOTICE TO COMMUNITY AND PARTICIPANTS

The Samford RSL Sub-Branch extends a warm welcome for all to attend the 2023 Anzac Day Memorial Service, which will be held at our Avenue of Honour (AoH) on 25 April 2023. This year Anzac Day falls on a Tuesday.

Anzac Day is the solemn day of remembrance of those Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli in 1915. It is also a day of remembrance for all soldiers who have fought and died for their country.

0715 Marchers form up – SAoH soccer ground end 0715hr latest.
0740 Fly Past One – Tiger Moth Aircraft
0745 Marchers step off towards memorial site
0800 Fly Past Two – Harvard Wirraway Aircraft
0810 Service commences
0910 Service concludes

Organisations / groups who wish to march and/or lay a wreath must email Mark Orreal at [email protected] with the correct name of the person laying the wreath and organisation / group marching by NLT Monday 10 April 2023. Each group participating in the march will be allocated a sign and a member of the organisation/group will lead them during the march.

Covered seating will be available for Veterans, disabled and the elderly. Dignitaries and disable parking will be accessible from Burton Lane and will be controlled by the Queensland Police Service and assisted by the Samford Rural Fire Brigade. General parking will be accessible near the soccer grounds and across the road at the tennis courts.

The RSL Sub-Branch strives to make Anzac Day significant and memorable. We hope you will join us in commemorating this important day in our history.

War Animal Memorial Opening has been Postponed
Due to the threat of extreme inclement weather, it has been decided to postpone the official opening until Friday week with a revised start time. The details are now;

Venue: Samford Avenue of Honour, at the Memorials site.
Date: Friday 4 March 2022.
Time: The Service starts at 10AM.
Duration: The Service will be about 35 minutes duration.

All members of the public are invited to attend the unveiling and dedication of this memorial.

MEMORIAL PLAQUES
The Avenue of Honour committee has been offering family members of deceased ex-service personnel the change to purchase a plaque for their loved one since 2015.
Unfortunately due to manufacturing price increases over that time we are forced to increase the price for a plaque to $300 from January 2022.

ANZAC Day 2021. For the second year running the ANZAC Day Service at the Avenue of Honour has been cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. We have been advised by the Samford RSL of the cancellation, and the Avenue of Honour Committee are now looking forward to the resumption of the Service in 2022.

Vietnam Veterans Day Service 18 August
The Service will commence at 1500 hours at the Samford Avenue of Honour. After the Service we will be adjourning to the RSL for fellowship etc.
Everyone is welcome – this is not restricted to only the ex-Vietnam members
