Cyclone Alfred
We are smack bang in the middle of storm season with cyclone Alfred resting on the shore. First off are you safe? Are you prepared?
Do you know what to do if your house gets damaged? Will your insurance cover it? if it doesn’t what can you do? Did you know that with some older homes, the insurance will cover some, but the council rebuild may require you to build to a higher standard due to living in a storm area? A bank will lend you money for repairs or even a rebuild if it’s necessary.

Some years ago, I had a customer whose house literally slipped down a hill in a storm. Insurance didn’t cover the rebuild as it had to be rebuilt to cyclone standard- we organised the loan based on the new rebuild value – problem solved.

Another one was an old couple who ended up with bad ceiling damage after a storm -only aged pension for income, we got them a reverse mortgage to do the repairs so they would be safe. No need for retirement, but the bank would sell the property to recover the debt once they passed or went into aged care. There is always a solution if we even if we don’t see it at first .
Is your emergency plan in place? Do you know where your insurance paperwork is? How much is your property insured for a rebuild?

All in all people the main issue is to stay safe. If you can stay at home and not be out and about in the storm then do it. If you do have a problem make sure you know who your professionals are that will help you sort out the issue afterward. If in doubt contact us maybe we can talk you through it.
