Electricity costs are soaring! Let's save some money!
I almost fell off my chair when I opened my last electricity bill... Granted it was my Summer bill (January to March) and we had the ducted air-con basically running non-stop but still, I almost had to remortgage the house just to pay it!
Since then, I've been a power usage n**i and have been looking at all sorts of ways to reduce our electricity bill. While I haven't gone to the extreme of turning everything off at the wall the easiest change I have made (and am honestly slapping myself that I didn't think of it before) is only using certain appliances during off-peak periods.
Off-peak periods in Australia are usually from 10pm to 7am. So I now put a load of washing on before I go to bed and hang it out in the morning. The dishwasher doesn't run until bedtime either now. I try to put dinner in the slow cooker at night, instead of using the oven, so it's just a matter of heating it up in the microwave the next night. We have changed the timer on the pool pump to run in the early hours of the morning now. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but every little change you make adds up.
Have you noticed your electricity bills getting higher and higher? What are your energy saving tips?
