The economy has apparently missed the memo that it’s supposed to be slowing down.

Yesterday morning’s Judo Bank economic update painted an interesting picture:

Unemployment has edged up, but jobs are still growing.
Consumers are feeling a little better.
Wages and government spending are adding to inflation pressure.
Property prices could fall 6-8%.

And despite all that, the view remains that the RBA may have more rate rises in store before Christmas.

Basically, the economy is proving annoyingly difficult to kill.

For borrowers, the message is pretty simple. Don’t sit around waiting for rates to save you.

If you haven’t reviewed your home loan, investment lending or business finance recently, now is a good time to see what other options are available.

A review costs nothing. Waiting for the RBA to make life easier could cost considerably more.

Conquer Finance is 9 years old today.

Nine years.

That’s a lot of loans, refinances, business deals, bank applications, phone calls, emails and, occasionally, a good old-fashioned fight with a lender on behalf of a client.

Some we win easily. Some take a little more convincing. And some probably explain the grey hairs.

But the best part hasn’t changed.

It’s the feeling when we get to tell someone their loan is approved.

When a client buys their home.

When a business owner gets the funding to grow.

When someone buys a commercial property, a new car, truck or piece of equipment.

Or when we simply find a better way to structure things and save a client some money.

Those wins never get old.

We’ve survived rate rises, rate cuts, COVID, changing lending policies and more relationship manager changes than anyone could possibly keep track of.

A massive thank you to every client, referral partner, lender, friend and supporter who has trusted us and been part of the last nine years.

We genuinely appreciate it.

Now onto year 10.

Still waiting for the part where running a business supposedly gets easier though?!

Who doesn't love a good side hustle?

A referral partner recently gave me a bottle of Grenache they produce on the side. I finally opened it... and let's just say if things don't work out, I know who has a future in wine.

It got me thinking. So many successful business owners I work with have something else on the go. A vineyard, an online store, a passion project, a weekend business. Sometimes it grows into something much bigger than expected.

I'm curious...

The last 12 months have been very challenging for various reasons, so I am pretty chuffed to share that I’ve been named a finalist for Commercial Broker of the Year at the 2026 Australian Mortgage Awards.

Apparently all those years spent reading lender policies, wrestling with servicing calculators and finding solutions for deals that don’t quite fit the standard box have finally paid off.

Commercial finance can be a strange world.

One minute you’re financing a commercial property. The next you’re working through a business acquisition, equipment purchase or a deal with a structure that requires several coffees and a whiteboard to explain.

That’s also what makes it interesting.

Being recognised as a finalist is a nice achievement, but more importantly, it reflects the clients, accountants, advisers and referral partners who trust me to help get these deals across the line.

So, thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, whether you’ve trusted me with your finance, referred someone to me, offered advice, worked through a tricky deal with me, or simply backed what I do. It’s genuinely appreciated.

Now we wait for awards night. I’m told there’s food and drinks, so either way I’m calling it a win. 😂
