How egg-citing, it’s almost the egg-tra long Easter weekend!

Whether you’re hopping along at work or having a break, our info will help you understand your public holiday pay and egg-titlements.

If your workplace is shut on the public holidays but you’d normally work, you get paid at least the base rate of pay for the ordinary hours you would’ve worked. It doesn’t come out of your annual leave balance.

If you work on a public holiday you may be entitled to penalty rates under an award, agreement or contract of employment. You can refuse a request to work on a public holiday if the request is not reasonable or if your refusal is reasonable in the circumstances.

Base rates of pay to increase by 3.3%.

The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.3% increase to award wages and the national minimum wage.

The increase takes effect from the first full pay period that starts on or after 1 July 2017. The new national minimum wage will be $694.90 (up from $672.70) per week or $18.29 per hour (up from $17.70).

It usually takes the Commission 2-3 weeks to update the pay rates in each award.

Once they make these changes, we’ll update our pay tools with the new rates. Sign up to our email updates and we’ll notify you when the new rates are available in our pay tools.
