Here at SITE planning + design we’re passionate about planning freight-friendly cities, towns, and regions that support smooth deliveries all year round—whether it’s Santa’s🎅sleigh pulled by his nine reindeer🦌, a road train🚚under the Aussie sun☀️or a freight train🚂crossing our boundless plains.

So this Christmas we’ll be celebrating Santa’s🎅hard-working Australian supply chain elves who go above and beyond to make deliveries📦across our great sunburnt land by road, rail, sea and air.

From the North Pole☃️to your home🏡, they’ve been delivering joy and magic✨every festive season for centuries. Keeping supermarket shelves stocked with Christmas fare, bottle-o’s full of Christmas cheer and ensuring online purchases make it under the tree by 24 December🎄🎁

Wishing you a merry Christmas filled with laughter, love, and plenty of holiday cheer. Thank you for being part of our journey towards smarter, more connected and freight-filled communities in 2024 and beyond!

Cheers to a bigger, brighter and freightier 2025!

🎉 Celebrating 13 Years Planning Freight-Friendly Cities and Regions! 🚚🌆🚂🌾🏗️🚢 🥕📦🚛

SITE planning + design is officially a teenager, and just like all teenagers we’ve got an unstoppable curiosity and energy to tackle whatever comes next.

For over a decade, we've been at the heart of planning freight-friendly cities and regions that deliver for everyone — from communities to local businesses and national supply chains. 🌍✨

It’s been an incredible journey filled with challenges, lessons, and successes, but it would not have been possible without you and our incredible team.

Thanks to all of you—our amazing clients, collaborators, and supporters ❤️—for being part of the journey and trusting us to plan for more connected, efficient, innovative, and sustainable cities, towns and regions that work smarter for people and goods.

Here’s to embracing the teenage years with big dreams, bold moves, and a little bit of attitude. 😏💪

Watch out 14…we’re coming for ya with growth, grit, and a whole lot of gratitude! 💪✨

HELLO 👋 Sydney / Eora Country
After being grounded in WA for the past 4 years, Kareena was super excited to get back to the east coast to talk freight, logistics + supply chains with a bunch of old + new . It didn't disappoint....data + telematics, net zero futures, reverse logistics, intermodals, inner city logistics, heavy vehicle access, social license + much more.
We're looking forward to becoming more regular Sydney-siders across 2023 working on some great projects, reconnecting with friends/clients/collaborators + being total town planning/freight nerds exploring NSW cities, regions + supply chains.
All suggestions are welcome.

M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S + best wishes for a sun-soaked, laughter-filled and freightier 2023.

This year we spent some time thinking about food supply chains + food security, so we thought it fitting to sign off 2022 by sharing some pics of the wonderful kitchen garden at Coogee Common that produced the tasty dishes we devoured at the SITE Christmas lunch.

We will be back in the office, refreshed + recharged, on Monday 9 January 2023.

We love the opportunity our birthday post gives us to celebrate the incredible infrastructure, activities and industry that come together to create our local, regional, national and international supply chains.

This year, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to highlight the fundamental shift in how Australian’s live, work and shop and how that continues to translate into the growth of online shopping…with 81% of Australian households making an online purchase in 2021… that’s 9.2 million households!! (Source: 2022 Australia Post eCommerce Industry Report)

As a result, our supply chains do some seriously heavy lifting moving freight across our sunburnt country, collecting parcels from local small businesses to global retailers and delivering to homes, workplaces, parcel lockers, post offices, collection centres or bricks and mortar retailers (click and collect), to name a few.

If the challenge of responding and adapting to our changing consumer behaviour wasn’t big enough, the amazing people that work across the industry kept supply chains moving during a global pandemic (hello locked-down borders) and climate disruption (watch out for washed-out freight rail lines and roads or those pesky bushfires closing major freight highways).

In addition to managing operational disruption, it is an industry is full of strategic innovators, leaders and early-adopters harnessing the opportunities afforded by big data, automation, AI, drone technology and tackling the challenges of last-mile solutions, decarbonisation, reverse logistics and skills shortages, to name a few.

These are some of the reasons why we love .

As always, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful individuals + organisations that have encouraged, collaborated, supported, championed, engaged, trusted + invested in us over the past eleven years. Our clients, consultant partners, business advisory A-team, family + friends, government agencies + industry organisations.

Yesterday/today, SITE planning + design + Align Strategy + Projects hit the roads, beaches, footpaths + coffee stops exploring the opportunities + challenges for urban + economic growth, environmental + landscape protection + the role of enabling infrastructure with the Wheatbelt Development Commission + 3 Local Governments in the amazing Wheatbelt Region.

From the stunning coast, to the productive agricultural hinterland + across to the valleys of the Darling scarp, this sub-region does some heavy lifting in seafood, meat, fruit + vegetable production for local, national + global markets, generating $370 million in agricultural production annually.

With COVID-19 shining a spotlight on the strategic importance of local food production + supply chains in proximity to major population centres + international export gateways, we are looking forward to digging in to this aspect of the project + the role of the planning framework in delivering long term sustainble outcomes for an area and industry of State significance.

After “opening our doors” in December 2011, we found our feet in the months following thanks to the support, generosity, mentoring + encouragement from three wonderful freight + logistics industry leaders. Those individuals + organisations played an instrumental role in the growth of SITE + are also the reason why we fell in love with planning freight friendly cities + regions.

10-years later we continue to acknowledge them for playing a significant role in our story, are grateful to call them mates + continue to collaborate with them on great projects.

Our 10-year journey has taken us to the top of port container cranes, travelling down freight rail lines, on-board ships + floating docks, through countless warehouses + to ports, intermodal terminals + industrial areas across Australia….and we can’t wait to see what the next 10-years will bring.

Wherever the next decade takes us, we’ve learnt that the best journey is one shared with great clients + great project teams, working on great projects.
