What is Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI)?

LMI is a one-off, non-refundable, non-transferrable premium that is added to your home loan if your deposit is less than 20%. The amount is based on the size of your deposit and how much you borrow. The higher your contribution to the purchase price of your property, the lower the LMI will be. This is put in place to protect the bank against any loss that may incur if you are unable to repay your loan.

The RBA (Reserve Bank of Australia) met yesterday and decided to increase the official cash rate by 50 basis points taking it to 0.85%.

The Reserve Bank of Australia lifted the cash rate today by 25 basis points bringing the new rate to 0.35%. Although the cash rate was predicted to increase this year, it has happened sooner due to inflationary pressures.

It will be interesting to see if the lenders will also increase their variable interest rates. This is a good time to review your current loan so please give me a call to see if it is competitive.
