Using a credit card to pay your ATO bill? Thereโs a change you need to know about.
โ ๏ธFrom 1 December 2026, the ATO will no longer accept credit card payments.
The ATO says it recognises that some taxpayers currently use credit cards to manage their tax payments, and changing the payment method may require some adjustment and could make cash-flow management harder for some businesses. Other payment methods will remain available.
๐ก So, what could you look at instead?
Depending on your business and circumstances, finance options such as a business overdraft or line of credit may be worth exploring.
- A line of credit provides access to an approved amount of funds that can be drawn when needed.
- A business overdraft can provide access to additional funds through a business bank account, up to an approved limit.
If your business currently uses a credit card to help manage the timing of ATO payments, now could be a good time to understand your options.
