Have you ever thought to yourself “I must grow up one day and actually look after my finances?”

You aren’t alone!
So many people that I talk to have no idea where their money goes, or even have a purpose for their money!

It comes in and goes out like the tide, some days it’s high tide and rushes out, other days are slower.

I’m here to tell you that you CAN be in charge of your money, and the 2 main things that make a difference is having a focus for where you WANT to spend your money, and then being AWARE of where you are spending it.

It makes such a big difference to your finances.

Why hello 👋

My name’s Jodi Porteous and I am here to help you figure out where your money goes.

I have been teaching money management skills for 10 years, and have over 25 years experience as an accountant/ tax agent.

I’m based in Western Australia and travel between Karratha and Perth for both business and family reasons, so I work online to support clients all over Australia with what they spend their money on, how they can change it (if they want), track spending habits and start saving more.

There’s 2 main tools and systems that you will be introduced to - first is a banking system so that you can have clear guidelines about how you spend your money, and the second is Xero - a bookkeeping program that allows you to track your spending easily and make daily adjustments without spending hours on spreadsheets.

I’m looking forward to meeting you all and sharing some ways to think about your money management differently!

Christmas presents. Do you buy store vouchers for family and friends for Christmas. How many of these get used?

With the economy tight and friends and family quietly struggling maybe the same value in a debit Visa card that they can use to pay a bill might be more useful.

If only you could buy a gift voucher for an electricity company to help someone.

Winter cooking. Soups are great this time of year. Lots of vegetables and legumes. You don't need meat in all soups. Bulk cook a huge pot of soup and freeze.

Those cold nights and too tired to cook? Pass on having takeaway and grab a healthy home made soup from the freezer.

Are you energy costs going up?

Have you looked around the house to make sure that it is energy efficient? Exposed glass? Curtains and blinds stop the heat escaping.

Time to compare your electricity price. Is the cheapest price the best one?

Doing this today I found that the cheapest price did not have a fixed term and could go up with a months notice. The second cheapest, that would cost an extra $50 per year was on a fixed term until 23 August 2023.

Guess which one I went for. Change over under way. Saving $300 per year with no surprises. Diary entry for August 2023 to review next time. Never Set and Forget as that is when you get charged too much.

Did you sign up for a gym membership for your new year goals? Still using it?

Many people set goals to sign up for products and never follow up the goals.
Have a peak at your bank statement. What subsription are coming out? Do you need them and do you use them?
Time for an autum clean up of the bank account.
