Central West Credit Union

Central West Credit Union At CWCU we believe in member-first banking. We operate right across the Central West.

The Central West County Council Employees Credit Union was formed in October 1966, with just 86 members. In 1970 we opened our doors to all local government and hospital employees, and adopted the name you know and trust today, Central West Credit Union Ltd. Then, in 1981, we opened our services to all members of the community, and haven’t looked back since. We have grown over this time to a team

of over 20 staff, working across six locations and servicing over 10 000 customers right across Australia. We’ve adapted to digital change and provide a full suite of banking services, letting you manage your money where you want to: online, on the phone, or in person. Despite these changes, we still retain the key features of a local Credit Union. We are community proud, and managed by a local Board of Directors elected by Members at an Annual General meeting. We are big enough to give you confidence with your finances, but small enough to know your name.

⛔️🛑❌IMPORTANT INFORMATION ⛔️🛑❌

Protect your money from remote access and gift card scams!

Scammers often trick you into downloading software to "fix" your device and then demand payment via gift cards.

❗️Remote Access Software allows a third party to access your devices. Once they have access they can see any personal saved information, such as user names and passwords. They then use the information you have saved on your device to access your bank accounts, perform transactions on your cards or even lock you out of your email or social media accounts.

❗️Demanding payment by gift card, is a tactic used by scammers as this payment method is virtually untraceable and funds are likely to never be recovered.

It is important that you act fast if you find yourself involved in a situation that raises red flags.

How to protect yourself:

✅Remain Calm: A scammer will use fear and panic to get access to the information they want. Once they have created fear and panic, rational thinking is lost and we will do anything the caller wants to "fix" the issue.
Reality is, there was never an issue that required fixing.

✅Never provide personal information, passwords or One Time Passwords: this sensitive information is designed for you only.

✅Never grant access: Never let an unverified caller take control of your computer or phone.

✅Never pay with gift cards: No legitimate organization or bank will ever ask you to pay using gift cards.

✅Stop and verify: If you receive an unexpected, suspicious call, just hang up. Always call the organization directly using a verified number.

✅Break the loop: Scammers may tell you not to call your bank. Calling your branch is the best way to break their hold and let us secure your funds.

Immediate action and reporting is important.

The sooner you contact your bank, the sooner steps can be put in place to secure your funds. Even if no funds have been lost. Reporting a scam stops criminals and helps others by identifying common tactics and gathering information and allows us to take steps to ensure your funds are secure.

CWCU Superstars ⭐️🏑⭐️

Michelle Godwin and Spedding represented Parkes Hockey Incorporated and NSW Women's Masters Hockey at the Hockey NSW Women's Masters Southern State Championships held in Parkes May 29th to May 31st.

As well as being Member Service Officer Superstars these girls know their way around a hockey field.

The event had a fantastic turnout and brought together hundreds of athletes across various divisions (Over 35s through Over 70s).

It was wonderful to see so many players and supporters in town.

Stay Safe & Stay Aware.

Recently, we have had reports of scammers who have been advising our members not to call CWCU, or to lie and say that the transaction is genuine.

A scammer will not want you to call us.
Calling us will break the hold the scammer has on you.
It will allow you time to Stop, Check and think through whether what you are being told is true or not.
It will also allow CWCU time to freeze your cards or accounts to prevent loss of funds.

At Central West Credit Union (CWCU), your security is our top priority.

We take your security seriously and there are some things we’ll never ask for - in person, over the phone or online:

**Your full Internet Banking password or SMS One-Time passwords.

**Your card PIN, CVV or full card number by email, text, or social media.

**To transfer money to another account for "safe-keeping".

**To download software or grant remote access to your device.

**To confirm personal details through an unsolicited link.

If something doesn’t feel right, stop and contact us immediately.

Further information can be found on our website at our Online Security and Scams Hub.

How to report to us:
📞 During business hours: Call our Head Office on (02) 6862 2788 or your local branch.

💳 Outside of business hours: Contact our Visa Fraud Department on 1300 705 750 or use the CWCU Mobile Banking App to freeze your card.
