Has the downsizing conversation begun at your house? Or perhaps parents are approaching this stage of life.

It's a big one, and not just financially. There's the memories, the location, the grandkids nearby. But there are real numbers behind it too: what downsizing could free up, what it might cost, how it affects your pension and estate plans.

If you're weighing it up, we're happy to help you see the full picture before you decide.

We came across a story recently that stuck with us: Ben Hyde, whose life changed in an instant after a horror crash in 2021.

It's a story about resilience, recovery, and just how much having the right cover in place can matter when things go badly wrong. Not always something we like to think about, but stories like Ben's are exactly why it's worth having the conversation.

We've got permission to share his story via video on our website.

MDRT brings together some of the best minds in the industry, and we're proud to see our own people learning alongside them.

We're proud that Carmen attended this year's MDRT Global Conference in Sydney on behalf of IAS, taking the opportunity to learn from industry leaders and gain new perspectives to bring back to our team and clients.

One of the standout stories came from Mike Posner, who shared his journey of walking across America and later summiting Mount Everest after experiencing significant personal loss. His message was a powerful reminder that resilience isn't about avoiding life's challenges. It's about continuing to move forward through them.

At IAS, we believe investing in the next generation of professionals is one of the most important investments we can make. Opportunities like MDRT help broaden horizons, challenge thinking and inspire what's possible.

Mortgage, kids, career taking off โ€” super's usually the first thing forgotten. A few things worth knowing:

๐Ÿ’ฐ Salary sacrifice (cap now $32,500)
๐Ÿ“ˆ Catch-up contributions after a career break
๐Ÿ’› Spouse contributions = up to $540 tax offset if they earn under $40k

Small moves now, real difference later.

A gentle reminder for you sole traders: nobody's paying your super but you. No employer, no automatic 12%. It's on you to make it happen.

Good news for this financial year: the voluntary contribution cap just rose from $30,000 to $32,500 (from 1 July). More room to top up, and a possible tax deduction while you're at it.

Worth a thought next time you're deciding where the business's spare cash should go.

Today is Daffodil Day! ๐Ÿ’›

Cancer Council's biggest day of the year, raising funds for research, prevention and support for people affected by cancer, which, unfortunately, touches nearly all of us in some way.

Grab a daffodil, pop in a donation, or just wear something yellow tomorrow to show your support. Every bit adds up.

We know everyone's looking to save money where they can right now, and so are we. But here's the thing about insurance: the goal shouldn't just be paying less. It should be making sure you're properly covered where it actually matters.

A lot of us build up our policies bit by bit over the years (home insurance here, contents there, then the car, then the rental property) and never go back to check if the numbers still stack up. With how much rebuild and replacement costs have gone up, that "sum insured" you set years ago might be well short of reality.

It's worth a look. Not to spend more, but to make sure the cover you're paying for actually does its job when you need it.

We're excited to share that Jo has been shortlisted for the Financial Standard Power50 2026.

For many years, Jo has championed a simple idea.

That financial advice isn't just about managing money.
It's about helping people navigate life's transitions with confidence. It's about understanding where someone is today, what they're building towards, what needs protecting, and the opportunities and challenges that may lie ahead.

That thinking became the foundation of IAS's Connected Advice philosophy and continues to guide how we work with our clients every day.

This recognition belongs not only to Jo, but also to the incredible clients, families, business owners, colleagues and professional partners who have trusted IAS to be part of their journey.

If Jo has helped you, your family, or your business along the way, we'd love your support.

When we talk about business interruption insurance, everyone pictures a flood or a bushfire. Big, dramatic, obvious reasons your business might have to close.

But honestly? Some of the most common causes are far less exciting. A lightning strike frying your electrical system. A burst pipe. Even a government-mandated closure, as plenty of business owners found that out the hard way a few years back.

None of these make headlines. But they can all mean weeks or months without income, while your costs keep rolling in regardless.

Business interruption cover isn't just for the disaster movie scenario. It's for the quiet, unglamorous stuff too.
