It’s that time of year again when we open the books and start quoting for the 2025 broadacre cropping season with options for growers to structure their crop insurance around yield, price, excess percentage and premiums.

We have expanded the data upload features in our online system to allow grain growers who use, or via their Agronomist have access to, the Farm Planning feature of Agworld to export the "Crop Insurance Report" for upload into our online system via their insurance broker. This simple to generate report provides CRU with a KML file containing a digital boundary of the field, farm name, field name, season/year, crop type, area, medium yield, and medium price. Our system uses this to quickly create a quote and reduces the need for growers and brokers to fill in insurance forms with data that they have already entered into Agworld, saving time and reducing the potential for errors. CRU does not receive any other data on the field history or current season inputs etc.

For more information on CRU please refer to your insurance broker or our website https://www.cruw.com.au/

For more information on Agworld please refer to their website https://www.agworld.com/au/

For more information on the Crop Insurance Report, or to discuss your account setup, contact Agworld at [email protected] or call 08 6230 2290

BOM April – June long range forecast:

The BOM has released their April to June long range forecast and whilst we know there is a lot of uncertainty with long range forecasts its always interesting to see what they have to say:
Rainfall Outlook:
• Grain growing regions of Western Australia, New South Wales, eastern Victoria and Tasmania have an even chance of experiencing median rainfall.
• Grain growing regions of South Australia and western Victoria appear to have a better than even chance of exceeding median rainfall.
• Note: While there is a good chance of exceeding median rainfall in some areas, it may not be sufficient to offset existing deficits.
Temperature Outlook:
• There is a 60-80% probability that the majority of Australia will experience above-average maximum temperatures which should result in warmer-than-average days and nights across the country.
El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO):
• The ENSO is currently in a neutral phase and the Bureau’s models indicate that it is likely to remain in a neutral phase until August.

It will be interesting to look back on this at the end of June and see what was experienced.

We are aware of significant and widespread frost damage throughout large parts of SA, VIC and southern NSW.
CRU customers should talk to their broker about adjusting yields and the impact of revision dates on crop insurance policies. Most of all we encourage all affected grain growers to not be afraid to talk to someone about whats happened and, to reach out for assistance: https://nff.org.au/mental-health-resources/
