Wishing all of our members and their families a Happy Mother's Day.

Mother figures help guide us through difficult times and teach us things we can't learn from a book or on the job.

They're often the first person we call when we need advice or to chat, but they're not always the person that gave birth to us.

We hope you have a great day celebrating with the mother figures in your lives whether that be your mother, aunt, sister, cousin or friends.

Over the next eight months over 11,000 ANZAC's would be killed.

Today we reflect on their courage, selflessness, dedication and sacrifice.

We remember all who have served and those who continue to.

This International Women’s Day we’re talking about investing in women to accelerate progress.

To some people this could mean having access to training, opportunities or having a mentor on site.

The future has not been written.

If you notice that someone around you doesn’t seem like themselves it might be time to check in.

It doesn’t have to be daunting.

It can be as simple as asking them if they’re alright and just being there to listen.

You don’t need to solve their problems.

Construction workers are 50% more likely to take their own lives compared to those in other industries.

Kevin has been working on construction sites for 4 years now and knows how important it is to talk.

“I think it’s good… things like Movember, Beyond Blue, or Incolink coming out onsite – just little conversations that sparks something with someone to actually see someone or talk.”

Reaching out for help can feel like a big step, but it's worth it.

Kevin's advice to anyone that might need some support is “Don’t be stubborn, don’t be too proud to actually talk to someone. If you want to talk to someone, that’s the first big step...”

Doing an apprenticeship at any age is challenging.

There's a lot of change and it can take a while to adjust.

It's even harder if you don't have people around you that can answer questions and support you through.

For women entering the industry it's less likely that someone in their family knows what it's like and can support them.

Leaving a gap in the off-site support women and girls may have access to.

That’s why 12 months ago the PPTEU and Raw Group they partnered to put together a Women in Plumbing program to support those doing an apprenticeship.

This support is a missing piece of the puzzle for girls or women that don’t have plumbers in the family to turn to throughout their apprenticeship.
