In 2021 Maxim Accounting & Business Advisors (MABA) and Forsythes Business Advisors (FBA) merged to create this boutique team of strategic accountants, business advisors and financial analysts, with a wid

e professional network. FBA’s reputation for delivering exemplary accounting and business advice is supported by its 70 year legacy. Kellie Wright became a director in 2010 & Warwick Turnbull was appointed in 2012. MABA was founded in 1997 by Chris Sneddon and Steve Roxby. Some of Team Maxim recently took part in 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿, run by Watt Street Athletic 🎗️

The sun was shining for this annual event, and we had 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗶𝗻 and give it everything they had:

Waz + Lisa
Bec + Tim
Tyler + Rahul
Jaz + her partner Daniel

Every single one of them smashed it! 💪

We also had a BBQ crew behind the scenes - thanks to Kel, Damo, Chris and Steve for keeping everyone fuelled and smiling.

A big congrats to 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 and everyone involved for a fantastic event which raised $3,418.40.

“After losing my mum to cancer and watching countless others battle the disease, supporting the cause through 35 minutes of hard work was the least I could do to help raise much-needed funds.” – 𝗧𝗶𝗺

𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 doesn’t have to mean selling out; it can mean building from within.

In this 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, we share how an established mechanical services business successfully transitioned majority ownership from founding directors to key employees within the business - while setting it up for long-term growth.

Clear valuations, open communication, financial modelling, and 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 helped create a fair exit for outgoing owners and confident, capable leaders ready to take the business forward - without losing momentum or culture.

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 to Dany Hearn, Adrian Essex, Bob Carter, and Darren Threadgate.

Celebrating 10 years at Maxim 🥂

𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘄 (or YC) started his journey here after working in business development, making the move into accounting and advisory and building his career from the ground up.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, 𝗵𝗲’𝘀:

✔️ Completed his accounting degree and CA
✔️ Built strong, trusted client relationships
✔️ Progressed from starting out through to Manager, and now into a Principal role

Such a great example of what long-term consistency, hard work and commitment to growth can lead to.

Chris is known for being 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 in his clients - someone they trust to pick up the phone before making big decisions.

Outside of work, he enjoys staying active, spending time with family and friends, hanging out with his dog Lola, and usually being found at a Newcastle Knights game - which has no doubt helped build plenty of patience and resilience over the years 😉

"Awesome 10 years, YC. Thanks for everything you've brought to the team over the last decade. From your hard work and dedication to keeping the office informed about all things NRL, to the unforgettable mullet era that kept us all entertained, you've made a positive impact both professionally and culturally. Congratulations on the milestone!" - 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻

𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 is rarely just a handover-the-baton moment.

Before passing ownership to the next generation, 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁:

- Whether the business structure supports long-term success
- How decisions will be made (and by who)

We loved being part of the Hunter Business Womens Network (HBWN) event
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆: 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, last week.

Our Director, Cass Sharp, joined Panel 2 to share her expertise around building wealth through property - particularly when it comes to structure, tax and making smart long-term decisions.

Some of the 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 on the night included:

✔️ Why preparation matters more than ever
✔️ The importance of making decisions based on long-term goals (not hype)
✔️ Understanding risk as well as opportunity

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀...

It's easy to ignore until it becomes your problem.

The reality is, small issues in the workplace don’t stay small for long. They can turn into 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀, 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 from running your business.

Knowing where you stand - and asking the right questions early - can make all the difference.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽, aka Cass.

If you’ve ever sat down with Cass, you’ll know pretty quickly she does two things really well:

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿.

There’s never any waffle or overcomplication. She's all about clear thinking that helps people cut through the noise and move forward.

We’d describe Cass as a mix of 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗺, and she’s a big believer in backing yourself (and helping others do the same).

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁: She started out in an ice cream shop, so she’s been delivering great experiences from day one!

Have you ever stopped to ask:

"If something unexpected happened tomorrow, would my family be okay?"

It’s a tough thing to think about, but having the right 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

It can help 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 you’ve worked hard to build.

We loved being out in the community at the Newcastle & Lake Macquarie Career Expo on 14 May at Broadmeadow Racecourse.

Our team — Bonnie, Sam, Erin and James — spent the day talking with Years 10–12 students, teachers and career advisors about what a career in accounting can really look like.

The conversations were down‑to‑earth and practical, covering things like:
• what a typical day looks like
• the different career pathways available
• our team’s own experiences starting out and building careers in accounting and business advisory

We also shared information about CA Fundamentals as an alternative pathway into the profession, which was especially popular with students considering more flexible or non‑traditional options.

It was great to be involved during National Careers Week, with career events taking place right across Australia.

You can find out more at : https://buff.ly/Hc0fEHC

Always happy to help start these conversations early and support the next generation as they explore their options.
