IS THE INTEREST RATE MARKET TURNING?

For the first time in quite a while a major bank increased its fixed interest rates for 4 & 5 year terms by 0.30%.

Whilst still historically very low is this a sign of the interest rate market turning and an opportunity to secure a low fixed rate before others follow?

Fixed interest rates are often indicators of the economy and finance markets and generally move quietly before any changes to variable interest rates that are more widely publicized.

At the moment there is also a gap of around 0.50% between most fixed rates and the variable rates so no pressure to move these yet.

This upward movement of rates could just be a major bank tweaking its margin or could be a sign of things to come. Time will tell.

Nice to see positive news relating to housing prices with nearly 5% growth here in WA during the past 12 months. Supports the large numbers of people at home opens.

Rental demand is strong too up 10% in WA this past year so good for investors.
