"When can I retire?" is never really about being tired of working. It's about money, whether there's enough to stop.
If your mortgage is nearly gone and you've been topping up super for years, you're closer than you think. Early to mid sixties is realistic for most couples in that position, and ten years out gives you room to move.
Three moves do the heavy lifting: pay the mortgage down faster, put more into super and claim the deduction, and hold shares outside it. Property can speed it up too, if you've got the runway.
But here's the part everyone skips. Where the money sits matters as much as how much there is. A million in your own name gets taxed every year of retirement. The same million inside super, after sixty, is tax free for the rest of your life.
That's hundreds of thousands saved over a retirement.
