The insurance industry is already ringing the alarm bells about the recent La Nina declaration.
All homes and buildings will survive La Nina events up to 1 in 100 year storms without any internal water entry if they are properly designed and constructed, but the tragedy is most won't pass the ultimate test when it matters. And that's going to continue to cost the insurance industry a bomb, which of course we all end up paying for by way of increased premiums.
What we can't understand is how this has been allowed to happen right across Australia, why roof plumbers are so poorly trained, why seriously defective and non-conforming roof plumbing products like common rain heads are allowed to even be sold, and also why the insurance industry isn't doing something to fix this entirely preventable mess of property and liability disasters.
The La Nina weather system already under way in the tropical Pacific will be stronger than previously thought, raising fears of significant flooding in Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology says.
