Last week, Jarrah from the Agripro team headed to Orange for the Australian Women in Agriculture conference.

We get asked sometimes why an insurance broker goes to industry events like this. It's a fair question.

The simple answer: because our clients are at these events and because understanding the agricultural industry, really understanding it not just the policies, is what makes us better at our jobs.

We're proud to support and show up for the industries we work in. It's not just about insurance it's about being genuinely invested in Australian agriculture.

After a record 2025-26, ABARES is forecasting an estimated 5% dip in Australian agricultural production value for the year ahead lower crop volumes, easing livestock prices, and ongoing input cost pressure. Not a crash, but a reset. In years like this, knowing your insurance is actually doing its job isn't optional.

Myth: "One farm insurance policy covers every part of my operation." 🚫

Bundling everything into a single farm pack can actually sometimes work against you. If your property value is spread across multiple locations, or you're running high-value plant and machinery, splitting these out into their own policies often means better cover and a smoother claims experience.

There's no substitute for being on the ground.

Part of what we love about this job is getting out of the office and onto farm, seeing operations firsthand, understanding how they work, and building relationships with the people who run them.

It's what makes the difference between a broker who knows agriculture and one who genuinely understands it.

Australia's poultry industry has done the hard work coming through the H7 outbreaks. But the biosecurity threat hasn't gone away. H5N1 the strain currently circulating globally, can arrive via migratory birds, and free-range systems carry the highest exposure risk.

A biosecurity event isn't just a health issue. It's a business interruption event. Depopulation costs, income loss during standdown periods, restocking expenses, these are real financial exposures that a specialist poultry policy should address.
If you're not sure what your current cover includes in a disease scenario, that's worth a conversation before you need the answer.

June 1 opening milk prices are in. The average landed around $9.28/kg MS broadly in line with last season, but in an environment where there's very little margin for error. Low irrigation water storages going into 2026-27 add another layer of uncertainty for the season ahead. If you're a dairy farmer, your insurance review probably belongs on the to-do list right now.
