The RBA has increased the cash rate by 0.25% today, taking it to 4.60%. That's the fourth rate rise this year and the highest cash rate we've seen since 2011.
The message from the RBA is pretty clear... inflation is proving more stubborn than expected, and they're prepared to keep rates higher until it's back within their target range.
What does this mean for you?
🏠 Homeowners & Borrowers
If you're on a variable rate, there's a good chance your lender will pass this increase on. It's worth reviewing your home loan, checking your rate is still competitive, and making sure you're getting the most out of features like offset accounts.
💰 Savers
Higher rates can be good news for savings accounts and term deposits. If you've got cash sitting in the bank, now is a good time to make sure it's working as hard as possible.
📈 Investors
Markets can react to interest rate movements in the short term, but making long-term decisions based on headlines rarely ends well. Staying focused on your strategy remains key.
🏢 Business Owners
With borrowing costs remaining elevated, it's worth reviewing cash flow, debt facilities and future funding needs sooner rather than later.
While rate cycles come and go, the decisions you make during them can have a lasting impact on your financial position.
