Last week, GCIS Insurance had the privilege of attending the Insurance Advisernet Conference in Sydney, celebrating a significant milestone for the network.

As an adviser within the IA network, it was fantastic to reconnect with fellow advisers, meet new people from across the industry, and spend time with our insurer and business partners.

A special thank you to Chubb Insurance for inviting me to an exclusive pre-conference lunch at Alegre Bar & Dining. It was a great opportunity to connect with industry peers and kick off what turned out to be an outstanding week.

The conference itself kicked off in style with a Sydney Harbour cruise featuring Ricki-Lee and fireworks, followed by two days of insightful presentations, market updates, networking opportunities, and a bustling trade show. It all wrapped up with a gala dinner and outstanding performances from Guy Sebastian and Peking Duk.

While the entertainment was incredible, the real highlight was the people. Events like these are a great reminder of the strength of the IA community and the value of sharing ideas, building relationships, and learning from one another.

A big thank you to the IA team for putting together such a memorable conference. Looking forward to taking the insights and connections from IA50 back to the business and continuing to deliver great outcomes for our clients.

Still feels unreal that GCIS Insurance was named Emerging Practice of the Year 2026 at the Insurance Advisernet IA50 Conference.

It came as a genuine surprise, and we are incredibly proud of what this recognition represents. Building a business is never a straight road. There are long days, tough decisions, setbacks and plenty of lessons along the way, but there is also real satisfaction in seeing the business grow and knowing that the hard work is making a difference.

A special thanks to Insurance Advisernet Australia , for creating a platform that gives Authorised Representatives like me the opportunity to build and run our own businesses.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has backed GCIS Insurance from the beginning. Our clients, team, insurance partners, family and friends have all played a part in getting us here.

Last week, I drove 1.5 hours one way to visit a client and it was absolutely worth it. While I can’t disclose the details about their future plans for business expansion and the direction they’re looking to take, what impressed me just as much was how much pride they took in their kitchen and overall risk management.

The kitchen was spotless, well organised and maintained to a very high standard. Their fire extinguishers and fire blankets are regularly serviced, and even the fire door was kept clear, something that is often overlooked in many businesses.

That level of care says a lot about a business owner. It shows pride, discipline and a genuine commitment to doing things properly, which are all important foundations when a business is looking to grow.

As an insurance broker, visits like these remind me that behind every policy is a business owner who has invested an incredible amount of time, effort and pride into building something worthwhile.

GCIS Insurance turns 2! 🎉

Two years ago, GCIS Insurance started as an idea — a dream to build an insurance brokerage focused on trust, genuine advice, and helping clients protect what matters most.

Fast forward to today, and what a journey it has been. In our second year alone, we grew the business by over 200%, supported 500+ clients and counting, and continued building a growing team of 3 team members.

Every step of the journey has reinforced why we do what we do which includes the late nights — to provide clients with genuine advice, reliable support, and insurance solutions that help protect their business, their people, and what matters most.

To our clients, referral partners, friends, family, and everyone who has supported GCIS Insurance along the way — thank you. Your trust, referrals, encouragement, and loyalty have been the backbone of this journey, and we truly don’t take that for granted.

As we enter our third year, we remain committed to improving our service, deepening client relationships, and continuing to provide tailored insurance advice and support.

Started the morning with a haircut from a client whose business I've had the privilege of insuring since day one. Gotta admire how much effort they have put into decorating the place.

It's always rewarding to visit a client's premises and see firsthand how far they've come. Sometimes, we forget that behind every business is a story of hard work, resilience, and dedication, and it's been a pleasure supporting their journey from the very beginning.

One of the best parts of my role is building long-term relationships and gaining a deeper understanding of the people and businesses I work with. Moments like these remind me that business is ultimately about people, trust, and genuine connections.

"Networking Tuesday by GCIS Insurance" - Happy Faces. Caught up with a client today who was introduced to me via a Malaysian community at Bliss Kitchen (highly recommend Malaysian Restaurant if you haven’t been!).

It’s always great to see how connections naturally form through shared communities. Today’s conversation went beyond just business; it was about understanding my client’s goals, their journey so far, and where they want to head next.

Spent Saturday afternoon connecting with like-minded business owners and professionals, sharing experiences and learning from one another.

A big thank you to John from Kaya Advisory for generously volunteering his time to discuss potential tax changes, business structures, and investment considerations. It was a great reminder that every business is different, and having the right team of advisers around you can make a significant difference.

As an insurance broker, I see the importance of this every day. While business owners focus on growth and operations, having the right risk management and insurance strategy in place is equally important to help protect what they've worked hard to build.

"Networking Tuesday" - We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Katie and Brenton from Berkley Insurance Australia (a Berkley Company). While clients enjoy extra sleep-ins and chocolate eggs, I’m using the quieter days to do what insurance really is: build relationships. Think of it as networking with purpose — less small talk, more strategy.

I’ve been catching up with the team at FTA Insurance because insurance really is a relationship game (and sometimes who you know matters more than what you know). Quiet weeks are the perfect time to strengthen those connections so when our clients need support, we can move quickly and with influence.

That behind-the-scenes work pays off: better deals, faster decisions, and the ability to get those “grey area” cases across the line. It’s not flashy, but it’s the difference between a good outcome and a great one.
