A tribute to my beautiful Nana, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 91.
This is Enid the Elephant π every little girl's best friend for life. Perfectly finished off with a dusty pink bow - just how my Nana would have loved it π
Elephants were my Nana's favourite animal. When I was a little girl, I loved going to her house to check out her Elephant collection, which was enormous! Everyone would buy her elephant statues as gifts & any elephant artworks that I made at school would go straight to her.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, in 1930 - when Nana would have been 2 - there were as many as 10 million wild African elephants roaming the continent.
And when she died, there was an estimated 415,000 left. That means that in my Nana's lifetime alone, 9.5 million elephants have died due to habitat destruction and poaching, as well as the impacts of climate change (and obviously natural causes too, of course π)
So for every custom, handmade Enid the Elephant ordered, 25% of the proceeds will be donated to Save the Elephants, a wonderful organisation that researches, monitors and protects elephant communities from poachers in the illegal ivory trade, promoting human-elephant coexistence and trying to spread as much awareness around the world as possible.
If you would like to order an Enid the Elephant for yourself, please DM to enquire. She is $50 - plus postage if required, but please note, there may be a 3-4 week wait as I make all my orders by hand and a lot of time and work goes into them. I appreciate your patience π
I may only be one person and this may not seem like much, but this is what I can do to try and ensure that these magnificent creatures can continue to walk on this Earth until I myself am a Nana, and so my children, grandchildren and generations after them can enjoy observing elephants doing their thing, because once they're gone, we'll never get them back π
