Australian professional year qualifications and 5 points award

Schedule 6D61 states that to be awarded 5 points at the time of invitation to apply for the visa, the applicant had completed a professional year in Australia in (a) the applicant's nominated skilled occupation; or (b) a closely related skilled occupation; for a period totalling at least 12 months in the 48 months.

The Department has confirmed that in order to be awarded 5 points for completing a professional year, you must have started and completed the course within the 48 months prior to being invited.

The Department has taken the view that the term "completed" is more than just the end of the program and is referring to all parts or elements of the course therefore, the full 12 months of the program needs to occur in the 48 months prior to invitation.

** Update on Bridging Visa B and Travel to Australia *****

As the Bridging Visa B (BVB) is NOT an eligible visa, the applicants MUST obtain an approved travel exemption before travelling to Australia.

Otherwise, BVB holders will be denied entry to Australia until travel restrictions are lifted.

** Breaking News **

On 13 January 2022, the Prime Minister announced that the Commonwealth had lifted the 40 hours per fortnight work limitation placed on international students.

This means international students can work unlimited hours regardless of whatever course they are studying.

*** Update on Temporary Graduate Visa ***

Further to the Australian government's announcement on Temporary Graduate visa on 25 Nov 2021 (https://minister.homeaffairs.gov.au/AlexHawke/Pages/covid-19-concessions-for-offshore-temporary-graduate-visa-holders.aspx), we can confirm that the Department has commenced granting 3 years of Subclass 485 (PSW) visa for the applicant, who has completed a Master degree by coursework from today (26 Nov 2021).

*** Information for international students returning to Australia ***

From 1 December 2021, eligible visa holders, including international students, will be able to travel to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption.

However, students entering Australia will also be subject to the quarantine arrangements of the state/territory they are travelling to.

Travellers returning to Australia may only enter and travel between NSW, Victoria and the ACT without quarantining.

If you wish to travel on to another state or territory please check the specific local information below as you may not be allowed to enter, or may be subject to a quarantine period.
