This is how we protect breastfeeding.

By staying curious, challenging outdated practices and ensuring our care is guided by the latest available evidence.

A beautiful day with these Midwives, Paediatric Nurses and a Chiropractor last Friday in Chadstone 🤍

French Olympic Judo champion Clarisse Agbegnenou has spoken publicly about breastfeeding while being an elite athlete, and I love seeing breastfeeding represented in spaces where we don’t always expect to see it.

I’ve shared Clarisse here before, and I’m sharing her again because I’m such a huge fan of the way she uses her platform to promote breastfeeding so beautifully 🫶🏻

My heart is feeling pretty full after yesterday’s Lactation Training 🤍

Sitting here, reading through the feedback forms and reflecting.

A little glimpse of what participants shared… 🥹

I run these trainings every year, so if you’d like to express interest in attending in 2027, comment or DM TRAINING to join my mailing list.

Did you know breast vein patterns can be a useful visual clue when assessing breastfeeding?

Notice how this mum’s right breast appears less full, while her left looks fuller, with more prominent veins (I suspect she may have recently fed from the right side).

✨ I’ll share how I use this in my practice at my Lactation Training this week!

📍 Chadstone — Friday 16 October (Yes, that’s this Friday!)
📍 Moonee Ponds — Friday 30 October (SOLD OUT)

Sometimes protecting breastfeeding means choosing what NOT to share.

This is me at a professional event I was recently invited to.

When I arrived, I recognised elements that raised concerns for me under the WHO Code, so I made a conscious decision not to promote the event on my social media.

This is the only footage I captured that I’ll share, as it contains no brand promotion.

And this is exactly why understanding the Code matters; particularly for those of us with a professional platform and an audience of parents and healthcare professionals.

We don’t have to know everything from day one. But we do need to be keen to learn, ask questions and take our responsibility to protect breastfeeding seriously.

✨ This is one of the important topics we’ll explore at my Lactation Training in Melbourne.

Could your social media activity conflict with the WHO Code?

The International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes aims to protect families from inappropriate commercial marketing and support informed infant feeding decisions.

What you share and promote as a healthcare professional can influence how families make infant feeding decisions. Understanding the WHO Code helps you recognise where your responsibilities lie.

✨ If you’re not totally across this, come along to my Lactation Training in Melbourne this month to strengthen your knowledge and confidence in applying the Code.

The International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes aims to protect families from inappropriate commercial marketing and support informed infant feeding decisions.

Interestingly Australia’s former MAIF Agreement recorded breaches from healthcare professionals involving formula, bottles and teats promotion through social media, emails and events. The Agreement expired in February 2025 (and mandatory controls are being developed) but the WHO Code remains an important framework for protecting breastfeeding and we professionals have an important role to play.

Come along to my Lactation Training in Melbourne this month to strengthen your knowledge and confidence in applying the Code.

I created my Ni**le Butter after seeing how the wrong creams and balms could make ni**le damage worse.

So, I teamed up with my sister Holly, a Naturopath, to create my own.

🌿 Herb infused organic oils
🤍 Shea butter & aloe vera
🐝 Beeswax
🚫 No lanolin, essential oils or fragrance

And it’s safe to leave on between breastfeeds.

Available in 30g + 100g sizes via the link in bio.

A mother asks you: “Do you recommend a silicone breast pump?” What do you say?

They can be useful for collecting milk that would otherwise leak, but when suction is involved, we also need to think about milk removal.

Because hyperlactation is a recognised risk factor in the Mastitis protocol...

and this has changed what we know about milk production.

So where does the silicone breast pump fit into all of this?

I’ll tell you at my Lactation Training, coming to Melbourne this month.

Moonee Ponds is now SOLD OUT.

But I may still be able to fit you into the Chadstone training on Friday 16 October, 9:45am–4pm.

If you haven’t booked your seat and you’d like to attend, comment or DM “TRAINING”.

And Student Midwives - I have a special coupon code for you, so please message me.
