HELP! "Why is my firewood creating excess smoke?"

Never fear, we're here to answer all of your firewood questions and help you create the perfect fire.

But first, SAVE THIS POST πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

πŸͺ΅ When wood contains moisture, it takes a lot of energy to burn off the water content before the wood can ignite and produce heat. This causes the wood to smolder, produce smoke, and create creosote buildup in chimneys and stovepipes.

πŸͺ΅ On the other hand, dry wood burns hotter and more efficiently, producing less smoke and creosote buildup. This is because dry wood has already lost its moisture content, so it ignites and burns quickly, producing more heat with less smoke.

πŸͺ΅ In addition, burning wet wood can also cause damage to wood-burning stoves and fireplaces. The moisture in the wood can cause corrosion in the metal parts of the stove or chimney, leading to rust and other issues.

Make sure you ONLY buy firewood that contains less than 20% moisture as this will ensure a CLEANER, more EFFICIENT burn and help maintain the LONGEVITY of your equipment.

Purchase our Ironbark Firewood with no more than 9% moisture via our website www.woodco.com.au

STOPβœ‹πŸΌ

Do NOT light your firepit until you know how to do it SAFELY!

SAVE THIS POST then read on to check out our TOP TIPS for lighting your firepit with ease πŸ‘‡

πŸ”₯ BEFORE lighting any fires, always check with your local government agencies for any restrictions or guidelines as these vary from state to state and are dependent on things such as climate, current weather and seasons.

πŸ”₯ Make sure your fire pit is located in a safe area, away from anything that could catch fire, like dry leaves, trees, and overhanging branches.

πŸ”₯ Use dry, seasoned firewood like Victorian Ash to start your fire. Avoid using damp or wet wood, as it will produce a lot of smoke and be difficult to light.

πŸ”₯ Ensure your firepit is on even ground. The LAST thing you want is it tipping over as you add more wood

πŸ”₯ Place a layer of kindling such as PITBOSS Fire Nuggets or Honeybrix Premium FireLighters in the bottom of the fire pit.

πŸ”₯ Light the kindling using a long match or lighter. Stand back and allow the kindling to catch fire before adding larger pieces of wood.

πŸ”₯ Add the larger pieces of wood gradually, starting with smaller pieces and gradually adding larger ones as the fire grows.

πŸ”₯ Keep a fire extinguisher or water source nearby in case of an emergency and NEVER leave your fire pit unattended.

πŸ”₯When you're ready to put out the fire, douse it with water and stir the ashes until they're cool to the touch.

By following these steps, you can light a fire pit safely and enjoy a warm and cozy fire.

Want to know our EXPERT TIPS to 'Savour the Flavour' and create mouth-watering grilled meats on your barbeque or fire pit?

πŸ”₯ Choose the right firewood
Using the right firewood is crucial for achieving the perfect BBQ flavour. For a gourmet BBQ experience, consider using Australian hardwoods such Victorian Ash or Ironbark. These hardwoods have a strong, distinct flavour that will add a unique taste to your grilled meats.

πŸ”₯Marinate your meat
Marinating your meat to add flavour and moisture. Experiment with different marinades and rubs to find the perfect combination for your tastes.

πŸ”₯ Control the temperature
To get the perfect BBQ taste, it’s important to control the temperature. A low and slow cooking process is recommended for tender and juicy meats. You can achieve this by using a BBQ pit, a smoker, or by controlling the airflow to your grill.

πŸ”₯ Baste your meat
Basting is an easy way to add flavour and moisture to your meats. Use a brush to apply a mixture of oil, herbs, and spices to your meats as they cook.

πŸ”₯ Experiment with wood chips
Adding wood chips to your grill can add a smoky flavour to your BBQ such as Woodco's Kiln Dried Hardwood Kindling.

πŸ”₯ Rest your meats
After removing your meats from the grill, allow them to rest for a few minutes before slicing. This will help redistribute the juices and result in a juicier and more flavorful BBQ.

By following our TOP TIPS, you can easily create a gourmet BBQ experience using Australian firewood. Whether you’re a seasoned grill master or just starting out, these tips will help you achieve the perfect BBQ taste.

Hold up: There are different kinds of charcoal?

Yup!

SAVE THIS POST because you're about to learn EVERYTHING you need to know about charcoal....

Let's go πŸ‘‡

All charcoal starts out with wood that's been heated up in an oxygen-poor environment. Without oxygen, the wood can't actually catch on fire and instead; everything in the wood beside the carbon melts away into liquid or gas.

And what's left? Charcoal of course!

From there you have three different types of charcoal - HoneyBrix, Lump Charcoal & Coconut Charcoal.

β†’ Honeybrix are made completely from sawdust with no artificial chemicals, additives or bonding agents. It burns reliably for up to 5 hours meaning they are a great choice for professional chefs or serious home cooks.

β†’ Lump Charcoal is made from irregularly shaped pieces of hardwood that burn hotter, less evenly and more quickly than Honeybrix. We have 3 variations available including Premium Victorian Mallee Root, Paishantawa Natural and Victorian Hardwood.

β†’ Coconut Charcoal is made of 100% coconut shell. Its large and unique shape promotes balanced airflow allowing for a very high burn temperature with low ash and smoke. Great for fuss-free charcoal cooking with less mess, smoke and carbon.

What do we recommend ⁉️

If you're grilling something that's quick cooking, like thin sausages or smaller vegetables you'll want the high-heat fire of hardwood lum charcoal. If you're going low and slow on a whole chicken or thick steak, Honeybrix or Coconut Charcoals are your best friend πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ
