Recently, I worked on a deal that should have been straightforward.
Everything was in place.
All parties ready.
Settlement booked.
But behind the scenes… things started slipping.
Delays.
Uncertainty.
Silence where there should have been answers.
Meanwhile, the client had already planned their move.
Timelines locked in.
Stress building by the day.
And in that moment, it stopped being about the loan.
It became about responsibility.
Not mine to cause - but mine to carry.
The calls got longer.
The follow-ups got sharper.
The escalation didn’t stop.
Because when a client puts their trust in you,
you don’t step back when things get difficult…
You step in harder.
We got there in the end.
But what stayed with me wasn’t the outcome.
It was the reminder that:
This business isn’t about approvals.
It’s about showing up when things are uncertain.
It’s about protecting your client’s position — even when the system fails them.
That’s the part no one sees.
But that’s the part that matters most.
