A Smoke Alert has been issued for people between the Shire of Manjimup and Shire of Cranbrook including the towns of Pemberton, Bridgetown and surrounding areas
The smoke is the result of the Calgardup bushfire burning in the area.

The smoke is expected to clear later over the coming days.

❗ WHAT TO DO ❗

- Be extremely careful when driving through the area.
- Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
- Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
- If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
- If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.

There are two emergency warning fires in the South West - one in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and another near Yallingup in the City of Busselton.

Police are asking for more long-term resources in a Pilbara iron ore town to help them "take control of the night" following a spike in crime.

Beware when buying or selling on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree.

Wanneroo Police would like to remind the community to be very cautious about accepting a bank transfer as a form of payment for items purchased on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree.

We have seen an increased reporting of incidents whereby potential buyers send fake bank transfer confirmation screenshots to the victims mobile phone prior to the exchange of goods.

We recommend you accept cash only.

If you are selling an expensive item then remain alert if you are allowing them to handle/inspect the item prior to money being exchanged.

We have also seen an increase in persons taking possession of expensive phones and then running off at the first opportunity. We suggest you gauge the buyers behaviour, pick up on any nervous or suspicious actions and even ask to see the money first.
