The fire's out. The flood's gone. So why is the business down the road still closed eight months later?

In 2026, the event sometimes isn't the hard part. Recovery is.

Trade workers are scarce, building materials are delayed and getting approval is slower than a few years ago — a rebuild that used to wrap up in months can now run well past a year. Yet plenty of business interruption policies still cap out at a 12-month indemnity period.

When recovery runs longer than 12 months, the cover stops and the rest lands back on the business. That's a gap most owners won't understand until they're in it.

The good news: BI is easy to change at renewal, rather than after a loss. Our latest article breaks down why 12 months is no longer a safe default for businesses across the eastern states and Tasmania — and what to walk through with your broker.
